WelcomeDelegates, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2019 Australian Nut Conference (ANC). This event, held every two years and hosted by the Australian Nut Industry Council, plays an important role in bringing together delegates representing all sectors of the Australian nut industry supply chain. With more than 200 delegates across the conference and its networking functions, the ANC provides a unique opportunity for members of the horticultural, industrial and commercial sectors to share knowledge and information, to renew old associations, to forge new ones and maybe even write some business.

This year’s conference focusses on two points:

1. Understanding the challenges that affect the businesses in the nut industry from a market and marketing perspective. We approach this difficult issue from a number of angles beginning with the presentation of Bob Carr arguably Australia’s most recognised politician and well-known political influencer. Bob will share his deep fascination with, and knowledge of, international politics and relations. In particular how the US-China Dynamic is influencing and changing the business environment for nut producers and distributors. We will additionally explore how this dynamic is affecting pricing, production and marketing with presentations from Nielsen Retail, Olam and the University of Tasmania.

2. How the research into the many health benefits of nuts feature again with international researcher Dr. Rachel Browne joining Australian experts Dr Joanna McMillan of Today show fame discussing diets and nuts role in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Additionally, Elizabeth Neale from University of Wollongong discussing the latest results of the Australian Health Survey and how it can be used in social and media marketing campaigns.

As usual there will be two important networking functions for delegates and guests. The Welcome Cocktail Function sponsored by the Australian Macadamia Society this year featured cocktails showcasing a series of new macadamia recipes. This is an example of the wonderful value add and product innovation we have in our industry. Delegates attending the Australian Pecans Conference Dinner will be entertained by one of Australia’s well known jimeoin. Please take the opportunity to mingle with other delegates and make new acquaintances at these events and the conference breaks.

During the breaks we also encourage you to visit the number of trade exhibitors in the exhibition area. They support the ANC and we encourage you to support them; you may find a new product or technology to take back to your business. We acknowledge and thank our sponsors and exhibitors of ANC 2019. Their generosity to support events like this is vital to the ongoing success of the event. We should mention the major sponsors here; at least gold. And finally, we thank you, the delegates for your participation. We understand the commitment to attend is not inconsiderable and we sincerely hope that you will find the event to be professionally rewarding – and a lot of fun.

On behalf of the Australian Nut Industry Council Board and Executive, once again congratulations on your decision to participate in the 2019 ANC and I wish you an enjoyable and educational event.

The seven Australian tree nut industries (almond, chestnut, hazelnut, macadamia, pistachio, pecan, walnut) voluntarily come together under

the Australian Nut Industry Council (ANIC). ANIC works to deliver efficiencies to the industry in areas of commonality and collective

action throughout the supply chain. Through ANIC, the nut industries work together, sharing resources, experience and ideas to advance the

industries and promote the benefits of Australian-grown nuts.
