IT ChallengeFor the ERP Hosting Competence Center, providing business support is a daily challenge. The IT department must:

Optimize the reliability of all order, production and delivery processes in order to offer competitive lead-times, sometimes under 24 hours. Such initiatives can, for example, require reorganization of assembly units or issuing of customs documents before 10 am daily.

Optimize operating costs and increase margins: needs standardization, process automation, elimination of unnecessary manual actions and optimal use of existing resources.

Guarantee high IT availability. The logistics department must process orders around the clock, in collaboration with suppliers (order generation and cross-charging for assignments). Each month, the management auditors must process, within a short time frame, the large volumes of data required for business financial management.

Integrate all the company’s business activity into SAP Solutions. SAP makes it possible to integrate all Business Unit activity. However, given the critical nature of the information, very short lead times, the wide range of applications (invoicing, MRP, MPS, delivery plans, logistics, HR, sales & distribution, etc.) and the complexity of many processes, the ERP Hosting Competence Center quickly decided to expand the capacity of CCMS, the internal SAP operations automaton, to include the automation of IT production execution.

These criteria prompted ABB Italy’s ERP Hosting Competence Center to choose Dollar Universe for all its IT Production needs. They include:• Executing identical jobs at regular intervals, even when the previous occurrence has not been fully executed;• Controlling Batch Input files;• Defining automatic backup paths;• Setting parameters for advanced planning and automating sophisticate processing chain scheduling.

Honoring service contracts• By processing orders around the clock with no idle time, Dollar Universe has considerably reduced

response times. One example is the reduction in the time required for the monthly batch processing of the accounting balance from 4 days to 1 night. Thanks to Dollar Universe, ABB:

• Enjoys greater processing flexibility. Identical jobs can be run at regular intervals, even when previous occurrences have not been fully executed

• Can count on processing chains being executed correctly end-to-end within optimal time frames: the ERP Hosting Competence Center takes control of the Batch Input files, and can make automatic job chaining conditional on the prior execution of certain events

• Produces more in a shorter time compared to CCMS, thanks to the Dollar Universe “grid computing” technology

• No longer requires exacting manual verification. Jobs run automatically in accordance with the rules, whether simple or sophisticated. Jobs may also be run in real time without affecting other jobs that have already been scheduled.

With Dollar Universe, the IT department offers high around the clock availability and efficient support for the management of logistics teams working in three eight-hour shifts. Dollar Universe is integrated with cluster architecture, guaranteeing 24/7 availability and automatic backup paths minimizing the impact of any errors generated on the availability of applications.

• Around the clock steering at optimal cost. Just eight people guarantee the correct execution of the 1,700 jobs, and only one of those people is on call. The person on call simply uses a mobile telephone and a computer with which he can perform actions remotely and in real time.

• Lower stress levels despite the challenges. The ERP Hosting Competence Center remains in control of the situation. If necessary, operators are alerted by a text message on their mobile telephones.

• Time savings. With Dollar Universe, the operators can view the consolidated information concerning all jobs using a single terminal.

• High degree of reactivity. Operators use ergonomic tools with which they can troubleshoot and restart a job directly from the point at which the error occurred. They often solve problems before the end-users have had a chance to notice them.
