    The problem

    • Amputation o( a hand or limb is a )atastrophi) e*ent resultin# insi#ni+)ant disability ith maor )onseuen)es (or daily a)ti*itiesand quality of life.

    • Althou#h (un)tional myoele)tri) prostheses are a*ailable today/e.#. hand0, their use remains limited due to a lack of sensory(un)tion in the prostheses.

    • As the orld1s population #ros and a#es, so does the number o(people li*in# ith disabilities in)ludin# lost limbs /e.#. trauma,diabetes or )an)er0.

    • A sense o( ta)tility is needed (or pro*idin# feedback for controlo( prostheti) limbs and to per)ei*e the prosthesis as a real part o(the body thus indu)in# a sense o( body ownership3 and anatural sensation of touch.
