Edna Alley Mintonye has had a book, They Laughed, Too, published by Naylor Company, San Antonio, Texas. Recollections by old-timers, as told to school children, of how the Northwest was won, it has been cal led a fresh new look at pioneer life in Oregon. Mrs. Mintonye lives in Monroe, Oregon.

Elizabeth Ann Kellogg Bea11 Jives in Mountain Rest, S. C. She is active in a local art group, arranging shows and exhibits and has won prizes for her own paintings. In recent years she has done some studying at nearby Clemson University.

Kathryn Heffernen has retired after 41 years as horre service supervisor for Wisconsin Public Service in Green Bay.

1927

Alma Krause Parks lives in San Leandro, California where she has done substitute teaching in recent years. Her husband is a champion amateur golfer: State Senior left-handed champion this year; National Senior Lefty champion in 1966; British Co 1umbia Senior champion, 1961; Northern California Senior champion, 1964 and 1967; Western States champion in 1964. Alma's nephew, Duane llarpstcr is a WSU junior.

Angie Sheldon was honored last June for SO years service in education, by nearly 1000 alumni, teachers and friends at the Almond, Wisconsin High school.

Eldor A. Moede has retired after 43 years as an educator. He was Superintendent of Schools at Oconto Falls for the past 20 years.

1939

~:label Wind retired in June after teaching ·at Cudahy, Wisconsin for 26 years. She will live in Roswell, New Mexico.

1940

Kathleen Stone Fredriksen completed her master's degree at UW-Madison and is an A.ssistant professor of Elementary Education at WSU-Whitewater.

Minnie Hentschel retired in June as special education teacher at Nekoosa. She taught 46 years in­cluding 22 at Nekoosa, Wisconsin.

Thomas F. Yonash is new director for the Department of Social Services at Jefferson, Wisconsin.

Gretchen Holstein Schoff has been appointed Lecturer in Integrated Liberal Studies and Researcher in the Synnoetics Laboratory at UW-Madison. She has a Ph.D. in English. Her husband, Keith, who attended WSU from 1948-50, has a private patent law practice in Madison.

Phyllis Mae Jarnick was married last _ summer to .John R. Calder. The Calders live in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

DEATHS

Prof. Donald L. Beran, 6J, Columbia, Missouri, a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri, died in June at SanJuan, Puerto Rico.

Dr. Beran was head of a special training program of the agency for International Development~ He was on a A.ID tour of Jamaica and Puerto Rico, when he became ill. He had been on the U. of Missouri faculty for six years. Besides his bachelor's degre e from this university he had received master's and doctor of philosophy degrees at UW--Madison,

We have received word of the death in 1967 of Lewis Sanders ,, He is survived by his wife and 13 year old son 1 Steven . We received this word from Luida Sandersi his sister, who graduated in 1949.

John Wilhelm Frie s, 27 , a teacher at Rhi n elander, Wisconsi n Junior High school.

Yrr. Fries had been active in the collection and propagation of rare American wildlife waterfowl and had written several articles for waterfowl magazines.
