Understanding Patch Cable Safety & Performance Compliance
Patch cable performance is not widely understood outside of certain
industry professionals. They should meet both fire safety and transmission
performance, i.e. Cat5e, Cat6, etc. Major name manufacturers all
insure compliance with Ul and performance standards. However the
Communications Cable & Connectivity association (CCCa) purchased
samples from outside of the major manufacturers. Four out of five CMR
cables failed the UL 1666 flame test. A total of 379 patch cables from 379
non-major manufacturers were tested for performance and 85% failed to
meet the minimum specifications.
These non-compliant patch cables place your company at risk in the event
of a fire and provide poor transmission performance. Always look for UL
listed and either UL LAN Verified or ETL Verified status for performance.
Check with these agencies online to insure it is true as there is an epidemic
