born on April 23, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska to John and Pauline (Burke) Schweiger. She grew up in Omaha and graduated from South High School. While in school, she completed draw-ing and secretarial classes that helped her profession-ally and personally the rest of her life.

After graduating high school, Rose Mary was hired to work in the office at Cudahy Meat Packing. She was then hired by Mother’s Best Flour to also work in

the office. Mother’s Best was acquired by ConAgra and it was while she was working there that she met and married Dan Steiner. She continued to work until she quit prior to having the first of their seven children. The couple lived in Omaha until 1975 when Dan acquired the Steiner’s Locker and the fam-ily moved to Yankton.

Rose Mary had a gift for the arts. She enjoyed dancing and met Dan while dancing at Sokol Hall in Omaha. The couple enjoyed polka and waltz dancing for the majority of their 55 years together. She drew pictures for their children and helped create visual displays for Dan’s meat case at Hinky Dinky. She later took up oil painting and recreated outdoor, cabin and western themed pieces of art. She also played the piano.

She always said that all she wanted from life was to have a large and loving fam-ily. She served as a model of unconditional love to her family, never spoke ill of anyone and possessed great faith. She always cared for her family before herself and often was routinely still up working long after the rest of the family called it a day. By example, she taught her fam-ily the virtue of humility, the power of prayer and to treat everyone with respect. She especially enjoyed holidays when the entire family was at home.
