Location of Modipuram, MeerutModipuram, is located 71 km away from

New Delhi on Delhi- Roorkee- Haridwarhighway (NH-58) in Meerut district knownfor its first war of independence during 1857.This region has lush evergreen in croplandwith ~150% cropping intensity. It also bearsthe glory of harboring various historicmonuments, memorials and Militarycantonment. It is well connected by rail androad to the rest of the country. The climateof Meerut is pleasant during the month ofOctober. No warm cloth required

Course ContentConcept, issues, status and prospects ofConservation Agriculture; Crop diversification,Crop residue management, CA machinery, Toolsand second generation machinery; Precisionagriculture; CA through farming systemsmanagement, Organic farming, water, weed andnutrient management; socio-economic impactsetc.

The candidates must possess at least Master'sDegree in Agronomy / Soil Science / AgriculturalEngineering / any other relevant to ConservationAgriculture. A fair working knowledge of theconservation agriculture technique andexperience of cropping! farming system in therelevant field is desirable/ preferable. He/ Sheshould be working in a position not below therank of scientist! Assistant Professor in I.C.A.R.Institutes/ S.A.U's, etc.

TA& DA:Participants will be paid TA by the shortest routeand restricted to the maximum of AC II- tier fareonly (excluding Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express).Participants will be required to furnish suitableproof/ tickets in original in support of their claim.Daily allowance will be paid for actual travelperiod of to and fro journeys only. No otherincidental charges will be paid.

Background Information

Objectives

To introduce and popularize energy efficient andcost effective system based conservationagriculture technologies for improving systemproductivity, profitability, soil health andenvironmental quality; with efficient use ofirrigation water; besides improving workefficiency and welfare of laborers.

Conservation agriculture has emerged as anew paradigm to achieve goals of sustainableagricultural production. It is a major step towardstransition to sustainable agriculture. In India,efforts to adopt and promote resource conservationtechnologies have been underway for nearly adecade, but it is only in the past 5-6 years thattechnologies are finding acceptance by thefarmers. The concept of CA is different whichinvolves crops diversification , minimum/ zero Eligibilitytillage and crop residue management

Developing and promoting CA systems areconsidered to be highly demanding in terms ofknowledge base. This will call for greatlyenhanced capacity of scientists to addressproblems from a systems perspective; be able towork in close partnerships with farmers, otherstakeholders and also strengthened knowledge andinformation-sharing mechanisms. Conservationagriculture offers an opportunity for arresting andreversing the downward spiral of resourcedegradation, decreasing cultivation costs and Duration of coursemaking agriculture more resource - use-efficient, 'competitive and sustainable.
