Dear Patrons,On November 7-8, 2009, Poydras Home celebrated its 15th Annual Art Show. Each

year the show grows, both in the number of artists participating and in the number of art lovers who flock to Poydras to enjoy our annual Show & Sale. It was in 2006 that we hosted our first ever Patron Party, organized by one of our wonderful families, the Van Horns. Ever since, the Patron Party has become the much-anticipated celebration that kicks off the three-day fundraiser, and affords its attendees a “sneak peek” at the Juried Exhibition. The preview party provides a wonderful opportunity for patrons and art lovers alike to mingle, enjoy fine food, dance to New Orleans music, and discover a special piece of art they can’t live without.

The Art Show is Poydras Home’s sole fundraiser and each year proceeds are dedicated to a specific need of the residents. Art Show funds have refurbished the Quiet Room in Hunter House, purchased an 18 person passenger bus and a therapeutic hydra-spa and, most recently, a passenger car for trips to doctors’ offices.

Poydras Home is extremely fortunate to have your generous and continuing support. We are so grateful to each of you – our sponsors, artists, volunteers, supporters, committee members, family members and residents. Your gifts, your time and your commitment are vital to our ability to continue our mission. Even more, your support provides a strong affirmation of the value of excellence in compassionate care for the elderly. And for that we especially thank you!

The 15th Annual Art Show & Patron Party on Nov. 6-8 raised over $80,000 for Poydras Home. Attendees at Friday night’s Patron Party enjoyed an enchanted evening of fabulous food by Patti Constantin

and lively entertainment by Deacon John. Patrons took advantage of early access to the juried art - browsing, admiring and purchasing pieces of art before they were available to the general public for the two day sale beginning Saturday morning. More than 150 artists participated in the indoor juried exhibition and outdoor sale and they generously donated 35% of their proceeds to Poydras. To all of the sponsors, patrons, donors, attendees, volunteers and artists of this wonderful event, we thank you!

Throughout the year our employees provide exemplary service and compassionate care to our residents and day participants. Poydras Home would not be the fine institution it is today without our caring, dedicated staff. Our caregivers and the Poydras community enthusiastically

come together each year to plan and prepare for the Annual Art Show & Patron Party. Each Poydras Home manager and department from Nursing, Dietary, Housekeeping to Maintenance has a major role to play in planning, executing, and facilitating our three day event that supports over 150 artists, hosts over 300 people for the Patron Party, and welcomes hundreds of visitors to our campus on Saturday and Sunday. Our single annual fundraiser would not be possible without our staff’s experience, expertise and teamwork! Our patrons’ donations and especially the gifts to the Annual Appeal allow us to maintain our excellent staff ratios to uphold our tradition of superior quality of care and support services. Annual AppealAnnual Appeal is the cornerstone of giving to Poydras Home. It includes unrestricted giving from all sources and supports Poydras Home’s operations, programs and activities. Poydras Home’s excellent staff ratios, quality caregivers, improvements to the home, and support for Alzheimer’s and dementia programs are all funded in part by the Annual Appeal.

EndowmentThe Poydras Home Endowment Fund ensures Poydras’ future as a continuing care retirement community and assures the perpetuation of its mission of quality, compassionate care for future generations. Income generated from the Endowment Fund supports general operations, property and capital improvements, and resident subsidies.

Annual Art Show & Patron PartySupport for Poydras Home’s annual fundraiser as a sponsor, donor, contributor, patron, artist, or volunteer assists Poydras in raising funds for a specific need. Participating artists donate a percentage of their sale proceeds to Poydras. In 2007, the Art Show & Patron Party proceeds obtained a new 18 passenger bus for residents. In 2008, funds raised were dedicated to purchasing new therapeutic hydra-spas for residents. In 2009, proceeds purchased a passenger car for residents for transportation to doctor’s appointments and offsite therapy sessions.

Memorials & GiftsThe generous support of gifts made to Poydras Home in memory of or in honor of someone directly supports the operations of Poydras. These very thoughtful gifts offer a special way to remember those you love, or to recognize a kindness received or service rendered.

Pastoral CarePoydras Home nurtures the spiritual, as well as the physical requirements of our community. Poydras retains a full-time chaplain who ministers daily to the emotional and spiritual needs of residents, families, and staff. Donations to Pastoral Care support the Chaplaincy Program providing two non denominational religious services weekly and year-round support for 10 visiting ministers from five religious denominations.

2009 1st Place Art Show Winner

Artist Patti Adams’ lovely painting, “Teapot & Trivet” was the 1st Place Winner of the Juried Exhibition of the 15th Annual Poydras Home Art Show & Patron Party. Patti’s work has been

greatly admired by Poydras Art Show attendees for the past five years and she was the 1st Place Winner in 2008. “The Poydras Home Show is one of the few opportunities for artists to participate in juried exhibitions in New Orleans. It is also a great opportunity as an artist to work with a non profit in our community. At Poydras you meet so many other exciting artists, but also I value the interactions with the staff, the residents, the families and all the art lovers and collectors over the two-day show and sale,” says Patti. A California native who now calls New Orleans home, Patti is currently the director of the new Garden District Gallery (across from Commander‘s) that opened in the Fall of 2009. The 2nd Place Winner of the 2009 Show was Tanya Dischler’s “Great Blue Heron” and William Crowell’s “Carnival Time” took 3rd place. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Darlene Johnson for “Purple Cabbage,” Ann Anderson for “Couroupita Blossom” and Gladys Reinecke for “Staring Contest.” Art Lovers everywhere mark your calendars: The 16th Annual Art Show and Patron Party will be the weekend of November 5-7, 2010.
