414 – 145 Pacific Ave Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6 Dear U16 Athletes & Families, We would like to invite you to participate in the U16 [age 16 or younger on January 1, 2018] Winnipeg Storm Rugby (Winnipeg Region) training camp in preparation for the ManSask Regional Competition which is to be held in Regina, Saskatchewan on July 7 – 9, 2018. The Winnipeg Storm program is designed to focus on the development of each participant both on and off the pitch by providing quality rugby skill training and experience playing the game in a competitive setting outside of school programs and Rookie Rugby. The program is open to all within the age bracket and there will be NO CUTS (so, provided you can make it to practice on a regular basis, you WILL be selected to play) Note: this program is not a ‘tryout’ program, it will focus on the ‘education’ of players who are interested in playing rugby; the selection criteria will primarily focus on regular attendance at practice sessions, where only those present regularly will be considered for selection. Attendance will be monitored. When: Date: Sunday 6 th May Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Date: Sunday 13 th May: Open Provincial team try out Time: 1:00 P.M – 3:00 P.M Date: Sunday 20th May Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Date: Sunday 27th May Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Date: Sunday 3 rd June Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Date: Sunday 10 th June – Provincial trial (game) Brandon Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Date: Sunday 17th June Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Date: Sunday 24 th June Time: 4:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M Where: All practices are to be held at Maple Grove Rugby Park (MGRP) unless otherwise stated What to bring: All players are to supply their own water bottle and are expected to dress for all weather [lightning is the only reason to not train] i.e., always brings t-shirt, jersey, sweats, towel, runners and rugby boots. We do not have access to changing rooms, but we usually do have access to washrooms in the arena. All athletes are expected to bring a notebook and a pen, for ‘theory sessions’. What we are about: All sessions will focus on player development; understanding of the game of rugby union football; appreciating how the game is played; understanding tactical awareness though an athlete centered coaching model; development of strategies for developing ‘rugby fitness’ to improve performance and minimize risk of injury; nutritional education opportunities, leadership opportunities and team building.
