MAKING HIS CASE: 2B Jonathan Schoop ranks among American League leaders in several offensive
categories…He ranks ninth in the AL in batting average (.302) and second with 104 RBI…His 32 home runs are
tied for ninth and his 65 extra-base hits are tied for seventh…Schoop’s 170 hits are tied for fifth in the AL and his
.531 slugging percentage ranks ninth…Schoop was named to his first American League All-Star team this season

DRIVE ‘EM IN: 2B Jonathan Schoop has recorded his first career 100 RBI season and became the fastest Oriole
to reach 100 RBI (August 31) since Chris Davis in 2013 (August 1)…Schoop established an Orioles record for RBI
by a second baseman (primary position), passing Roberto Alomar, who had 94 RBI in 1996…Schoop ranks second
in the AL and ranks seventh in the majors with 104 RBI this season…His 50 RBI since the All-Star break lead the
AL and are tied for fourth in the majors.
RATED ROOKIE: Among qualifying American League rookies, INF/OF Trey Mancini ranks second in batting
average (.292), ranks second in slugging percentage (.505), is tied for second in home runs (24), and ranks third in
on-base percentage (.338) and RBI (76)…His 24 home runs rank third-most in Orioles history for a player during
his rookie season, trailing only Eddie Murray’s 27 in 1977 and Cal Ripken, Jr.’s 28 in 1982).
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: In 42 games since joining the Orioles on August 1, INF Tim Beckham is hitting
.331 (60-for-181) with 11 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 22 RBI and has at least one hit in 35 of his 42
games with the O’s, including each of the first 12…He was named the AL Player of the Week for July 31-August 6
after hitting .583 with three doubles, a triple, three homers, and six RBI in six games to earn his first weekly award.
CATCH THIS: O’s catchers lead the AL and rank third in the majors with a .284 (154-for-542) average...When
catching, Welington Castillo, Caleb Joseph, Francisco Peña, and Chance Sisco have combined to notch 23
doubles, one triple, 29 home runs, and 75 RBI…O’s catchers are tied for first in the majors with 29 homers…Castillo
leads AL catchers and ranks second in the majors with a .291 batting average this season…His 19 home runs rank
fourth in the AL and are tied for fifth in the majors among catchers (primary pos., min. 300 AB).
HOMER HAPPY: The Orioles have hit 223 home runs this season to lead the majors…The Orioles also lead the
majors in homers since the All-Star break with 100…The O’s have led the majors in home runs in three of the past
five seasons (2016, 2014, 2013), finishing second (2012) and third (2015) the other two years…OF/DH Mark
Trumbo’s 20th homer on August 25 gave the Orioles six players with at least 20 home runs this season…Trumbo
joined Manny Machado, Jonathan Schoop, Adam Jones, Trey Mancini, and Chris Davis as O’s with 20
homers...It marks the second-straight season and the third time in O’s history (since 1954) that the Orioles have had
at least six players with at least 20 homers in a season (also 2016–6 players and 1996–7 players)…For the past four
consecutive seasons, the Major League leader in home runs was an Oriole (Chris Davis in 2013, Nelson Cruz in
2014, Chris Davis in 2015, and Mark Trumbo in 2016).
PLAYER OF THE MONTH: 3B Manny Machado was named the American League Player of the Month for
August...Machado batted .341 (43-for-126) with 23 runs, six doubles, a triple, 12 home runs, 35 RBI, and three
stolen bases over 29 games to earn his second career Player of the Month award (also April 2016)...Among AL
hitters, Machado finished first in RBI, tied for first in home runs, fourth in slugging percentage, and fifth in batting
average...He notched at least one hit in 22 of 29 games and posted multi-hit efforts in 14 contests...Machado became
the 10th player in Major League history, and the first in O’s history, to record three grand slams in a calendar month.
AN AWESOME AUGUST: In 29 games in August, the Orioles led the majors with a .306 average, a .534 slugging
percentage, and 57 home runs...Their 57 home runs set a new Major League record for the month of August, breaking
their own record of 55, set last season…The 57 home runs were the third most hit by a team in any calendar month
in Major League history, trailing only the 58 hit by the Orioles in May of 1987 and 58 by the Seattle Mariners in
May of 1999…The Orioles ranked second in the American League with 169 RBI during the month…Orioles
relievers ranked fourth in the AL and fifth in the majors with a 2.80 ERA during the month.
TOOL TIME: In Baseball America’s “2017 Major League Best Tools,” the Orioles had multiple selections by
Major League managers among the top three American League players in a variety of categories…3B Manny
Machado was selected as the best defensive third baseman in the American League, as well as having the best
infield arm, and LHP Wade Miley was ranked as having the second-best pickoff move in the AL…Two minor
leaguers were also selected by minor league managers and coaches among the “2017 Minor League Best Tools”
published by Baseball America, including OF Austin Hays as the best batting prospect in the Carolina League and
LHP Alex Wells as having the best control in the South Atlantic League.
MINOR LEAGUE RECAP: Double-A Bowie made their second Postseason appearance in the last three seasons,
and their seventh appearance in franchise history...They were defeated two games to one by Altoona in the Western
Division Championship Series...Class A-Advanced Frederick made the Postseason for the first time since 2011 and
for the 11th time in franchise history...They were defeated by Lynchburg two games to one in the Northern Division
Championship Series...OF Austin Hays was named as one of five finalists for Baseball America’s Minor League
Player of the Year Award...Bowie INF/OF Garabez Rosa was named the Eastern League MVP, becoming the third
player in franchise history to win the award...Frederick OF Ademar Rifaela was named the Carolina League MVP,
becoming the second player in franchise history to win the award...Overall, the Orioles had 24 minor leaguers named
Mid-Season All-Stars and five named Postseason All-Stars.
HIGH FIVE: Since the beginning of the 2012 season, the Orioles lead American League clubs and rank fourth in
the majors with 516 wins, finishing with a .500 or better record in each of the last five seasons...In that span, Orioles
hitters lead the majors with 1,330 home runs and have committed the fewest number of errors (488).
