WINE APPRECIATION CLASS - THE WORLD OF WINE

Wine Appreciation Class ‘The World of Wine’Participants will learn to taste and evaluate Tasmanian, Australian and World Wine under the guidance of renowned Tasmanian Wine Show committee members and guest presenters. You will receive theoretical knowledge of wine styles and varieties of local, national and international wine regions underpinned by a unique selection of wines.

Week 1 Tuesday 9 May (6-8pm) - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sparkling

"Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start." Julie Andrews as MariaWhere is the beginning with wine? How to Taste. Tasmania, Champagne

and Burgundy.

Week 2 Tuesday 16 May - Sauvignon - Blanc and Cabernet.

Looking at Bordeaux varieties. NSW WA SA Tas. NZ Loire Bordeaux & Sauternes.

Week 3 Tuesday 23 May - Shiraz Style.

Exploring Halliday's Australian Shiraz style classification. Rhone Appellations. Varieties: Marsanne, Roussanne Viognier GSM. Regions of SA + Vic & Tas

Week 4 Tuesday 30 May - The Naked Grape: Riesling.

Dry to sweet. Young to old. Clare/Eden Rhine/Mosel Tas/Alsace including Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Pinot NoirNB 21 and 22 May - Red Wine Weekend!

Week 5 Tuesday 6 June - Giro d'Italia

Vinous Tour of Italy including Sicily and Sardegna. Presenting the great red grapes of Italy, especially Nebbiolo and Sangiovese, plus support acts including Gavi (Cortese grape - white) and Nero d'Avola.

NB The Cycling Tour of Italy is in May!

Week 6 Tuesday 13 June - Vuelta d'Espagna & Portugal + Madeira

Vinous Tour of Spain & Portugal, the Iberian Peninsula, including Sherry and Port plus wine from the island of Madeira. Also Rioja, from the great Spanish Tempranillo grape (Tinta Roriz in Portugal)

Week 7 Tuesday 20 June - Le Tour de France (Le Tour follows in July!)

Vinous Tour of France including varieties, styles and regions not yet encountered.

Week 8 Tuesday 27 June - The Rest of the World

Old World and New World varieties and Styles.
