Wooden windows and doorsWood is a fantastic material. Its many properties makes it ideally suited for the manufacture of windows and doors for any climate.

Vrogum selects timber carefully, using only the best quality. All our timber is selected from sustainable for-estry for environmental protection.

The amount of nitrogen stored in the wood is kept through-out the entire product life. When supplementing this with reforestation for further absorption of nitrogen, an active effort is made in order to reduce the greenhouse effect.

PineVrogum selects slow-growing pine from Northern Scan-dinavia. Long winters and short summers ensure wood strength and hardness as well as very high resistance and a high share of heartwood for maximum quality. For the most exposed parts of the windows and doors, laminated wood is used for increased stability. External moulding is larch only. As wood is a natural product, ex-tract of resin may occur.

Water based, the VCS system primes the wood in such a way that optimum wood moisture is maintained. This way fungus and rot have no opportunity of damaging growth.

Environmental report(Surface treatment by Vrogum compared to vaccum impregnation)

Intercon A/S, an independent advice agency, has docu-mented the environmental aspects of the Vrogum Coat System with reference to the traditional vacuum impreg-nation. The following conclusion was reached:

Formerly, the surface treatment at Vrogum consisted of vacuum impregnation and spray painting. The impreg-nating liquid contained 94% organic solubilising agents which resulted in large emissions of these into the outer environment and the internal work environment. The former surface treatment has furthermore resulted in high consumption of energy for the drying, hardening and ventilation.

In order to reduce the environmental impact in 1998, Vrogum introduced a new and less polluting technology, VCS, which is specially developed for water based paints. VCS replaces vaccum impregnation and partly also spray coating.

Vrogum Coat System - VCS

VCS – efficient wood protectionThe extremely high layer thickness as well as the high surface sheen gives units a beautiful surface and not least a long life and long maintenance in-tervals VCS treatment is carried out in a flow coat facility. In the flow coat facility, units are sprayed with primer so that all joints and weak spots are penetratedUnits treated with VCS releases no solubilising agents. VCS is thus non allergenicVCS reduces the wood’s ability to absorb moisture. This way the dimensions and dimensional stability of the wood is preserved. Also the risk of wind cracks forming is reduced, and the wood maintains a nice and smooth surface.

PrimerAn effective wood base primer. Priming ensures that any fungus spores in the wood are disabled so that they will not damage the wood later on. Units delivered with a base primer must subse-quently be treated. Please ensure that units re-ceive an effective and protective surface treat-ment in good time before fitting1 - See Vrogum´s Maintenance guide.

Grey/white base coatUnits receive a base coat as described under F-0. They then receive a base coat with a primer which protects all end-grains, joints and weak spots. Finally an extra coat is applied to ensure good layer thickness and a good base before the end treatment.

End treatmentUnits receive a base treatment as described above and are then puttied and lightly sanded. Next, the units receive their final coat of hard-wearing, watery acrylic based paint. The final treatment has a layer thickness of minimum 100 µ, even thicker in joints and weak points. The result is an effective wood protection in either a covering paint or stain colour.

Colour Combinations: F-S – Inside/Outside different colours, however it is not possible to combine to transparent colours or to choose untreated units on one side. Transparent stain colours on the inside cannot be combined with a transparent colour on the outside, but only with a paint colour.

GlassAll Vrogum glass is delivered as standard with a super Low E glass filled with Argon Gas and a K-value of 1.1 - and therminal spaces (stainless steel). Exceeding Part L 2006 of the Building Regulations (Conservation of fuel and po-wer). Alternatively, we offer a range of functional and figu-red glass.

Glazing beadsVrogum fits glazing beads on the inside with a grey silicone sealer on the outside. This method has numerous advan-tages:

Considerable longer durabilityThe outside surface is 100% water tightThe silicone remains tight and elas-tic for many years. Vrogum has more than 30 years of experience fitting glass with silicone

Increased security, as glass cannot be removed from the outside.

All internal glazing beads have hidden nail holes, i.e. rust proof steel nails

are placed in a sealing groove and thus hidden after fitting.

With covering paints, the bottom aluminium glazing bead on fixed frames is as standard painted the same colour as the unit. With dark stain, the bottom glazing bead is painted with RAL 8016 and

with light stain RAL 8001.

With Rosenholm fixed frame, outside glazing beads are fitted with hidden safety clips.

Weather stripsTo ensure the best possible tightness, all sashes are fitted with a weather strip inside a groove. The weather strip is easily removed and re-fitted if needed when painted the unit. Furthermore sash and frame are designed with a wind and water groove which effectively deflects rain water.

Glazing barsGlazing bars are an important choice, and Vrogum offers a large range of glazing bars for individual solutions. Please see page 37.

CE MarkingVrogum products are CE marked according to the EU´s marking regulations, which came into effect on the 1 Feb-ruary 2010. The marking enables you to compare various products on the market according to their capacity of air and water tightness, wind load and insulation values.

We set high demands to our windows and doors, and by testing are long row of units we provide our consumers with a standard of reference. However, please note that in itself the mark is not a quality stamp, but part of the overall pic-ture of the high quality products Vrogum offers.

For the good of the environmentWith the transition to VCS, emission of organic solubilizing agents from VCS and emission during use has been reduced by nearly 98%. The total energy consumption for the process, drying, ventilation and air humidifying has been reduced by 74% per tonne of treated wood, heat consumption by 59%. The reduction in energy consumption furthermore reduces the consumption of energy related ressources and means less emission of CO2, NOx, SO2 mm. per tonne of surface treated wood. Slim profilesExtremely slim profiles with the optional choice of different profiles and traditional brass hardware makes this window suita-ble for renovation. In new builds the aes-thetically beautiful, slim profiles create an excellent natural lighting. DanroseTo live up to the high insulation demands of the future Vrøgum has developed this high insulating outward opening window with triple gla-zing. The window can be delivered with glass, which has an extremely low Ug-Value of only 0.5, providing it with an Uw-Value down to 0.9. However, this value depends on the size of the window as well as con-structed with or without hinged sashes. The window is delivered as si-dehung with hinges and friction brake as well as side- or topguided, all with espagnolette and window handles. To maintain the high insulating power of the window it is, with the selection of bars, only possible with 22 mm simulated bars without spacers between the panes.

SolborgSolborg is a traditional sliding sash window system resulting in a window with many uses. As the sashes neither close outward nor inward, they do not get in the way of humans or objects in-side or out. This function also ensures optimal airing, as a circulation is provided which is only pos-sible with his type. On the lower sash a tilt function is fitted enabling an inward tilt for easy cleaning.

TightnessVrogum has developed a unique closing system which results in the sash being pushed towards the weather strip when the window is closed. This window is incredibly tight and draught is avoided, a problem normally related with sliding sash windows.

SecurityBoth sashes are closed with an espagnolette and lockable handle on the lower frame. The glass is fitted from the inside as on other types, ensuring that the glass cannot be removed from the outside. Combined with the

espagnolettes and lockable handle, the burglary protection is enhanced with the use of safety hardware (article no. T-4240).

Night ventSafe, locked night ventilation of app. 20-23 mm is possible as the lower sash is fitted with double striking plate as well aspossibility of lockable handle.

HardwareThe sashes are held in position with spring balances. The top sash handle is stainless steel. On the lower sash you have to choose a handle. All aluminium parts are anodised.

HornAs decoration, a horn may be fitted to the top sashes (please see illustration under Accessories page 31).

TestSolborg is one of the tightest sliding sash windows on the marked and has been tested for up to 39 DB sound reduction.

On this model, the sash opens app. 100 mm as on an ordi-nary window. After this point, the child safety catch is triggered. Once released a 170° degree rotation of the window is possible, enabling window cleaning from the inside. On this window the hardware is hidden and as standard delivered with anodised window handle.

To fulfill the need of today’s consumer, based on good, stabile, Danish craftsman traditions combined with mod-ern technology, we have developed these very varied door systems.

These doors come in a wide range of combinations both modern and classic by style. The Hasselbro system has front doors (including solid core doors), French doors and the traditional stable door. All may be combined with top-light and/or sidelight in one or more units.

Door hardwareThe door is delivered with 3 point espagnolette (safety es-pagnolette with front doors) as well as adjustable safety striking plates. As alternative, an automatic shootbolt es-pagnolette may be ordered. Hinges are as standard warm galvanised 2D adjustable hinges. Alternatively, hinges may be ordered in stainless steel, brass or powder enamelled white. Toplight is delivered with brass hinges and catch as standard.

Solid core doorThe Vrogum solid core door insulates extre-mely well with a u-value of 0.8 (door leaf without any glass inserted).

HasselbakkeTo meet the needs of today’s consumers, we have developed this door system based on good, stable, Danish craftsman traditions combined with modern technology.

In either modern or classic style, a wide range of combinations are available. The Hasselbakke system offers entrance doors which may be combined with toplight and/or sidelight in one or more units*.

Thanks to good craftsman quality, rational manu-facturing technology and the application of the best raw material, a functional product with a long life is guaranteed.

Door hardwareAs standard, the door is delivered with 3 point securi-ty espagnolette as well as adjustable security striking plates. Alternatively, an automatic 3 point security espagnolette may be delivered. Hinges are warm gal-vanised 2D adjustable hinges. Alternatively, hinges may be delivered in stainless steel, brass or powder enamelled white.

Handle, brake, backplate or backroses as well as cyl-inder are optional extras, which can be seen under Accessories pages 33-34.

Vrogum delivers vertially all glass types which are on the market. Below table shows a small selection of the most common glass types which all are delivered with black terminal spaces as standard.

Super low E glassSuper Low E Glass is a glass type that lets the sun heat in without unreasonable heat loss and problems with cold spots. This also ensures a better indoor climate has thus improves the environement. All units are delivered with super low E glass as standard.
