3. WINDOWS 8.1 DEPLOYMENT METHODS

3.1 REPLACE SCENARIO

This is similar to the refresh scenario, except the target system is a new computer that does not yet

contain any files or settings. The scenario consists of conducting a new installation on the target

computer, and then data that will be migrated over to the new computer.



THE REPLACE SCENARIO HAS TWO PARTS:

PART 1: USMT Backup on client’s machine

PART 2: Fresh Installation on client’s new machine

4. Replace Installation Procedure (PART 1 – ON CLIENTS MACHINE)

4.1 Press the Start button and type the following: software

Note that Software Center appears in the search results.

4.2 Select Software Center



4.3 In Software Center tick the box “Sanlam Group USMT Backup” and select Install

Selected

USMT will backup all the user’s data to a network location.



The USMT

will take

several hours

to complete.

(It also

depends on

the data

size).

4.4 Note that the Sanlam Group USMT Backup status is shown as installed

Once the USMT Backup has completed successfully you can start to build the clients new machine.



5. Replace Installation Procedure (PART 2 – ON THEW NEW MACHINE)

5.1 Boot with the Win8.1 USB flash drive

Press F12 for the boot screen and select the USB device.

5.2 Task Sequence Wizard

4.3 Select Next to start building Windows 8.1



PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

4.4 The Installation of Windows 8.1 Update 1 will take several hours to install. It also

depends on what Software is linked to the users profile on SPS. After the installation

you will be greeted with the New Windows 8.1 logon screen.

This concludes the installation procedure.
