What are wind farms?

Wind farms are groups of wind turbines owned by a group of people on land or at sea.

A wind turbine’s design depends on the location’s weather conditions.

Who owns wind farms? John Deere Wind Energy Duke Energy Walmart

Purchased enough wind farms from Duke Energy in Texas to power up to 15 percent of the total energy required at their 350 Texas stores

BP Has interests in 13 wind farms in seven U.S. states

with two more under construction Siemens Alstom Global National Governments

Depending on the size of the turbine, variable amounts of power can be produced. Having a couple turbines is likely not enough to power an entire house. The energy produced during peak use will go towards fulfilling the current energy requirements. Any time of excess created electrical energy will flow to the energy company lowering one’s energy bill.To calculate a wind turbine’s power output use:

P = Power output, kilowattsCp = Maximum power coefficient, ranging from 0.25 to 0.45, dimension less (theoretical maximum = 0.59)ρ = Air density, lb/ft3

A = Rotor swept area, ft2 or π D2/4 (D is the rotor diameter in ft, π = 3.1416)V = Wind speed, mphk = 0.000133  A constant to yield power in kilowatts. [i.e., 1 kW = 1.340 horsepower].Source:
