Introduction

•

Power is an essential part in day to day life• In India power sector have improved

drastically from fifth five year plan.

• After liberalization policy in India many

private players have entered into Indianpower sector

• With the liberalization policy governmentgave 100% foreign equity for powersector.

• Government have started power projectsfrom fifth five year plan in order to meet

the supply and demand of the power in



Before 1991

• 5th five year plan (1974-79)

• NTPC:

– Current installed capacity of NTPC group has

become 33,194 MW.

– NTPC generates power from Coal and Gas.

– In AP it has only Coal based plants at

Ramagundam (2600MW) and Simhadri

(1000MW).



• NHPC:

– No project in AP.

– Total installed capacity of 4502 MW

• NPTC:

–Formed in 1989

–

Renamed as power grid in1992



After 1991

• Creation for private generating

companies

• 100% foreign equity

• Private participation in renovation

and modernization

Advantages of wind power

• Construction time is less.

• Fuel cost is zero.

• O & M cost is very low.

• Capacity addition can be in modular form.

• There is no adverse effect on global

environment.

• Capital cost ranges between 4.5 crores to

6.85 crores per MW



Opportunities for windpower in AP

• Available Potential: 8968 MW

• Installed Capacity: 170 MW

• Ministry has been issuing guidelines for

wind power development in order to

bring about balanced growth of thesector.

• State govt. has issued power policy to

encoura e IPPs



AP State Policy

• Rs 3.50/kWh without any escalation for 10

years.

•Banking is not allowed

• Third party sale is not allowed

• Captive sale is not allowed

• Penalty on kVArh consumption 10

paise/kVArh upto 10% and 25 paise/
