A few have replied but many have not………….If you would like for us to recognize a birthday, anniversary

or any “special “ event in our monthly newsletter please send your information to [email protected] or you may drop it off in the mail slot located in front of the office to the left of the pool gates. As of January 1, 2013 we will only be recognizing new information. This will allow any new residents to be recognized and those that may no longer be here in Winchester Country to be deleted. So please remember anything that has been published in the past will no longer be in future newsletters. We can only print information we receive AFTER January 1, 2013! We look forward to hearing from you.

Resident input……..If you have an article that you think would be interesting for our newsletter here is what you will need to do. Please e-mail your suggestion to [email protected] before the 5th of the month. After I receive your article it will be forwarded to the Board for approval (this is the reason it must be sent by the 5th of the month) and then if approved it will go to the Newsletter publisher on the 10th of that month for the following month newsletter. If you have any questions please call the office @ 281 890-8856 and I will be happy to assist you.

If you are 55 years old and older we are looking for you. We meet the 4th Monday of every moth at the Winchester Country Clubhouse. We meet for snacks and fellowship. We play Dominions: Train and Chicken foot. We also play bingo, cards and other games all while enjoying each others company. We go out to eat and attend plays at the 1960 Playhouse, Houston Family Arts Center on Grant Road. All seniors in Winchester Country are invited to attend. Controlling weight can help a person reduce the risk of cancer, said an oncologist from the NCI-designated Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.

"We do not know exactly how and why obesity affects cancer risk, but we know there is an increase, so it is important for everyone to control their weight to minimize this risk,” said Dr. Kent Osborne, director of the Duncan Cancer Center and the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, both at BCM.

Research has linked obesity to a greater risk of developing esophageal, pancreatic, colorectal, breast, endometrial, kidney, thyroid and gallbladder cancer, Osborne said.

In some cancers like breast cancer, there is also an increase in the risk of recurrence if a patient already has the cancer and is obese.

Many other factors, such as genetics, may play a role in cancer development, but keeping a normal weight is one thing people can change and it may help, he said.
