While this is the first-ever issue of Accelerant Magazine, it is a publication that has been brewing in my imagination for years. Truly, this is a piece I planted the seed for way back in grade school when I was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. This magazine is a testament to the way I have lived my life: If you want something, it is up to you to go get it.
I won’t go all the way back to my grade school days, but walk with me down (recent) memory lane while I explain what has gotten me to this point.
About five years ago, I was riding in the cab of a box truck, delivering ice for my father’s business. It was a hotter-than-hell kind of day in northeast Iowa and it wasn’t five minutes before the bottle of water I purchased at the convenience store was lukewarm. It hit me then that I needed to develop a product that would keep bottled beverages colder, longer.
That set me on my first product development adventure. In developing the Arctic Stick, I met some incredible people who further stoked my fire (I’m looking at you Cactus Jack Barringer, Kevin Harrington, Andrew Zalasky, Tim Zarley, Mike Silvestri and so many more I don’t have the time or space to list).
I was able to successfully crowdfund the manufacturing of the Arctic Stick.
That experience helped me launch my crowdfunding consultancy company that now lives under the Accelerant brand. In cruising the news circuit promoting my crowdfunding campaign and others I was consulting on, folks began to contact me to speak at events and offer one-on-one intensive consultancy.
That experience led me to launch the Live to Grind brand, offering online courses, intensive accelerator programs, one-on-one customized branding packages, and more. In working with the awesome accelerator participants it became crystal clear that we needed a traditional media product to share the stories of energetic, incredible entrepreneurs from around the globe.
And with that, we arrive here. The dawn of Accelerant Magazine is the result of an intentional action: I wanted it, and now you have it!

Tips & Tricks from the Accelerant Squad
GETTING STARTED Summer 2017

When we first think about a podcast (a modern day radio show) we savvy business owners daydream about all the advertising and sponsorship money that can be generated from it.
But that’s not what this article is about.
While earning money with paid ads or show sponsors is possible, there are a few other ways that a podcast can grow your bottom line that you may not have considered.
Overlook them at your peril!
1. Your Network is Your NetworthYou are the average of those you spend the most time
with. Want to become a millionaire? Hang out with millionaires.
But how exactly can one do so without stalking people walking to their car at a swanky tennis club? Answer:
Interview them.
A podcast is the best excuse that I know of to be able to reach out to people several steps ahead
of you, ask them targeted questions, and help them at the same time (by giving them
exposure to your audience, no matter the size).
If your podcast is audio-only, they don’t even need to leave their pajamas. (Note: neither do you).
So, reach out to influencers you would love to be mentored by and get to know personally. But do not ask them for help. Instead, invite them to be a featured guest. Offer value first and there is no limit to where things will develop.
2. Sell Your WaresAs the executive producer of the Live
to Grind podcast (formerly University of Young Entrepreneurs), I can tell you that
Brandon does not want sponsorships or money from advertisers. Why?
A couple of reasons. For one, he thinks it would be a distraction from the high quality
content he shares on each episode. And two, it leaves space to tell his audience about his own
products and services.
Although it is never a ‘pitch fest,’ in most every episode the listener can hear a little bit about his books on Amazon, amazing successes of crowdfunding clients,
and his mastermind academy and intensive accelerator (of which I have first hand experience!).
Giving lots of value in an episode and then mentioning products and services is a great combination to build rapport with your audience and let them know what they can purchase when they are ready to move to the next stage with you and your business.
3. Passive PartnershipsBy “passive” I mean that you do not need to deliver the
goods or services to earn the income. And “partnerships” is when you set up referral or affiliate relationships with other experts in your field.
This is another approach that can reap great rewards financially and by strengthening your relationship with the guests you have on the show and offering more value to your audience.
Anytime you interview someone and learn about the great products and services they offer, you can ask if they have an affiliate program (or referral policy) so that you can also earn from traffic you send their way.
Just make sure that what they offer is in alignment with your audience and be sure they will deliver on their promises since you are putting your reputation on the line by referring them.
Now back to you…What has been most successful for you in your business around podcasting?
Share with me on Facebook or Twitter @LaptopLaura and I may feature your story in a future article.

THE Solopreneur
There are many tools and resources you can use to get your company up and running.
Ready to get started right away? There are three major hacks that will help you to get better, faster ... regardless of what kind of budget you are working with.
My Big 3 are:
• Your Website
• Slack
• QuickBooks
You Need a WebsiteIn 2017, you can’t run a company
and not have an online presence. You can use simple builders to get started like Wix or SquareSpace, but if you want a website that will grow with your company, chances are, you will resort to building a website using Wordpress.
To build a legitimate website, you will need to set up three things:
• Host
• Domain
• Website content management system
I use GoDaddy as my host and domain registrar, and Wordpress as the platform to build the website. Once you have this set up, you will have to choose a theme. There are thousands of free themes, but if you are willing to spend around $60, you can greatly improve the theme options to make your site look very professional.
You don’t need to know any coding to learn Wordpress, but you will take a while to create your first website because of the learning curve.
You Need a Multi-Platform Communication Tool
Slack is a team management tool that is free to use and basically eliminates the need for email or texting. You can download apps on your smartphone and computer and communicate with your team exclusively through Slack.
You can create channels to discuss different matters and you can upload files. You can also have private groups and private messages.
It saves so much email clutter and headache.
You Need a Robust Accounting Solution
QuickBooks is an accounting software that is very reasonably priced and organizes your finances. It also makes it easy to integrate with TurboTax to file yearly and quarterly taxes and forms. This is very easy to use and can be done online or on an app that you can download to your computer.
There are certainly more, but these three are essential to get you started!

Emmy® Award-Winning Producer Reveals...
TO WATCH THIS FREE VIDEO TRAINING CLASS, GO TO AMBITIOUS.COM/VIDEOCLASS NOW.
Alexandra Wilkis Wilson – creator of GILT.com –leads her Ambitious® training course.
Greg interviews the the Founder of Green Bench Brewing Company on Ambitious® Adventures.
Greg shares the key ingredients of the top selling online courses in this episode of The Ambitious® Life.
Nick Nanton, Greg Rollett, and JW Dicks and the team accept an Emmy® Award for Return To Esperanza.
Hi, my name is Greg Rollett, and I need you to pay close attention to what I am about to tell you. Last year I spent nearly every waking minute in front of a camera, behind a camera or learning about ways to use video to grow and enhance my own brand as well as the brands of ThoughtLeaders® just like you.
This journey spawned 41 live video training courses that we created for Ambitious.com. It was the catalyst for a reality TV series that we funded on Kickstarter and led us around the country filming 5 episodes of Ambitious® Adventures. I started a 2x per week OTT (over the top) TV Show called The Ambitious® Life that can be seen on Apple TV, YouTube and Facebook. I even helped my business partners Nick Nanton and JW Dicks produce a documentary down in the Dominican Republic called Return To Esperanza that won each of us an Emmy® Award.
I did all of this because I saw something big was coming. And it was coming fast.
I also did it because of something Dan Kennedy once told me.
“You publish, or your perish.”
Today, that means publishing video content to not only build your brand and your positioning, but to get the attention of your prospects and turn them into customers.
You see, 4.9 billion videos are watched everyday on YouTube. On Facebook more than
500 million people watch at least one video per day on the platform. Now add in Apple TV, Roku and Amazon and you are reaching nearly every potential prospect across the globe.
If you are not publishing constantly and consistently on platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Apple TV you likely do not exist to the people you want walking through your front door.
But where do you start?
« And how can ThoughtLeaders® like you turn yourself into a video publishing machine without going crazy?
« How do you do it without knowing and understanding the technology or how to stand on camera?
« What about posting the videos online and driving traffic to them?
« How do you take a 3-minute video and turn it into a client or customer?
I just filmed a brand new free training class that walks you through the answers to these questions and more.
I urge you to watch this video class immediately before you perish into the abyss. Creating video content is not something that you should think about doing tomorrow - it’s something you need to do right now.

CREATIVE Thinking
When it comes to gaining influence in your industry, public relations can be a valuable tool. But where do you start?
First, research your industry. Who are the experts? Once you find these people, learn what you can do for them that will help their brand, not yours. Can you share something? Probably, but these people are getting hundreds, if not thousands, of social shares every day so that’s not different enough.
In order to get their attention you must do something that makes you stand out from the crowd. (SPOILER! Emailing them with your most recent article and asking them to share it isn’t the way to go).
Here are some suggestions to start the process of building a relationship with them:
1. Invite them on your podcast.
2. Write some great content for their website.
3. Be consistent in sharing their content. One share won’t get their attention, but consistently sharing just might do the trick.
4. Think of a special project you can do for them FOR FREE.
5. Think about what you can give back to them
specifically. What do they need the most? Even experts need help from time to time. They still have goals and dreams and you can learn what you should do in order to help them.

Investment in PR Can Help You Gain Influence in Your Industry
Embracethe GrindNo, you can’t be everything to
everybody. But, if you’re a small business owner, you need to be something to more than a few someones. Here is my “must be” list for small businesses:
1. Be Yourself (and let others tell your story)
There is a romance about the owner/operator that offers the opportunity to forge a unique connection with the customer and community.
2. Be Easy to Find & UsePeople need to know who you are,
what you’re selling and when you’re there. These are actually the most
important advertisements you have – make sure you are paying attention to them.
3. Be TraditionalTraditional media has a place
in your promotional mix, just make sure you are clear and succinct in your messaging (takes 7 impressions before most will act).
4. Be SocialNot a social media fan? Tough.
5. Be ConsistentThe old adage is true: You have
to spend money to make money. Find a marketing method that works and invest in it!

MAJOR Movers
Q: It seems like every time I jump into a social media platform another pops up that looks promising. How do I choose the right social media platform to promote my business?
A: First things first, you’re not alone in struggling with this question. Social media is a MUST in business generally, and absolutely vital in building a personal brand as an entrepreneur.
And “personal” is the operative word when it comes to entrepreneurs. You need to maintain your primary presence on the social media platform that best showcases your personality. Quick and witty? Try Snapchat. Love to educate and use video? It’s Facebook. Do looks sell for you? Instagram it is. Love the give and take? Jump on Twitter.
If you’re consistent and engaging, your audience will find you no matter where you choose to “live” on social media!
Have questions about moving from dreaming to doing? Curious about how we got our start? Need to know something totally off the wall you’re afraid to ask anyone else? Bring it! The Live to Grind team is ready for whatever you’ve got! Email your submissions to [email protected] ... if we feature YOUR question in a future issue, you will get a Live to Grind t-shirt!

Andrea Bergin carries a lot of titles, among them mother, wife, and very passionate business owner.
It is as a business owner that she has carved out a personal brand that is helping her make waves in Arizona’s ultra-competitive real estate industry. Andrea started her career at the early age of fourteen working for her parents’ real estate publication. She married husband Jon, a member of the U.S. Army, at the age of 20 and spent time balancing life as a wife and mom while working in a property management business.
In 2014, the family moved to Vail, Arizona where Andrea earned her real estate license. In her first six months, she realized over 3 million dollars in home sales. Andrea finished the year with $5.5 million in sales and won Rookie of the Year from Keller Williams Southern Arizona. She is currently on pace to do more than $10 million in sales in 2017. Andrea credits her success to something that came into focus while she was in the Influencer Accelerator offered by Brandon T. Adams.
“If you aren’t learning based then you will have an expiration date,” Andrea says. “I am always learning and being open minded to see how I can get to my destination faster and with less money wasted. I want to educate people to think this way in every way possible. You will have no limits when you are always learning with the times.”

I believe boxing is still the single greatest ventilation and lifestyle for me to handle the swings of startup life.
It’s a crisp, sunny morning in downtown Ames, Iowa in early April. As leaves begin to pop from their winter slumber, Clayton Mooney is anything but rested. He’s pushing open the door to Rippke Design to present to a group of entrepreneurs at a morning mixer about the upcoming Young Entrepreneur Convention, an event he co-founded the year before.
The presentation comes on the heels of an all-nighter for the 29-year-old Mooney. While others his age are comfortably settled into middle management with a couple of young kids, Mooney is a partner in a series of promising startups. There is the Young Entrepreneur Convention, KinoSol, Nebullam ... and offers for him to help out here and consult there coming in seemingly by the hour.
For many it would be impossible to keep it all together, but for Mooney, it’s all in a day’s work. In fact, the former professional poker player thrives in the high pressure startup environment which mirrors the high risk/high reward adrenaline rush of pushing all your chips into the center of the table. And he has stumbled upon an interesting way to cope with his fast-paced, stress-inducing pursuits.
“I believe boxing is still the single greatest ventilation and lifestyle for me to handle the swings of startup life,” Mooney says with his patented wide smile. “Those swings are seemingly much bigger than the swings my poker career provided.”
Mooney’s startups have seen some heavyweight successes. From winning pitch competitions across the globe as a member of the KinoSol team to earning a coveted spot in the Iowa State University Startup Factory with Nebullam, and expanding upon the wildly successful first year of the Young Entrepreneur Convention, things continue to move in a positive direction for Mooney.
And he is prepared to greet it with the dogged determination that has gotten him where he is today.
“I now feel I’m fully engulfed in trying to build the future, from the cockpit of a space craft of definite optimism,” Mooney says. “I’ve decided I’ll have and make ZERO time for bullshit and excuses in 2017. I’m willing to sacrifice everything. Even my hair.”
Sure, that’s quite a risk. But for a fighter like Mooney, it’s unlikely his locks —or prestigious beard —are in risk of falling out anytime soon.

He says he knows who is ultimately responsible for his success: Caleb Maddix. And he implores other entrepreneurs, regardless of age to avoid a dream-killing downfall.
“The gun that kills the most people is the ‘gonna.’ All of the sudden people wake up and they’re 40 years old and unhappy with their life, all because they thought their dream was just gonna to work out somehow. You have to make it happen.”
Greg Rollett was only 16 when he founded his own record label and launched his rap career. And while he still loves to take the stage, his music career has taken a backseat to helping entrepreneurs build their brands.
Rollett is the founder of ambitious.com, which offers an array of online courses to business owners and entrepreneurs. He is also co-host and co-creator of Ambitious Adventures, a reality show that combines travel with features on some of the most successful young entrepreneurs in the world. He has this advice for developing media designed to drive a personal brand:
“Don’t be scared to put your personality into it. If you sound like everyone else, then you’ll just get muddled in the crowd. Be yourself and stand out. Identify what you uniquely believe and beat that perspective into people like it’s a religion.”
There are few in the game who are on the entrepreneurial grind the way Brandon T. Adams is. Still shy of his 30th birthday (by a few years), Adams owns a brick-and-mortar business, invented a product that landed on Amazon, authored a book, earned the moniker of the “King of Crowdfunding” for his work in raising capital, has launched a magazine and the Young Entrepreneur Convention, built the Live to Grind and Accelerant brands from scratch, and much more.
Through his Influencer Accelerator, Adams helps entrepreneurs to push through common challenges and live out their dreams.
“I tell entrepreneurs that if they are willing to throw enough darts, they will eventually hit that bullseye they have been imagining. It is vital to continue to move forward. Not every step you take it going to be perfect, but as long as it takes you closer to your dream, it is the right move to make.”

“Accelerant has great connections and they come in everyday with a plan. The advice and strategy can’t adequately be measured in just dollars and cents.”

BRANDON T. ADAMSON THE GRIND, ALL THE TIME

Amanda Boleyn found success in the corporate world at a young age. For many, the security that comes from a quality corporate gig would be enough. But for Boleyn the pull of solo success was too much to resist.
In 2012, she jumped out of the work-a-day world and into the solopreneur work-as-long-as-there-is-work-to-be-done world.
The transition was daunting at first, but she quickly gained her footing and today is thriving.
Boylen has worked with more than 10,000 individuals, shifting mindset and changing behaviors through sales training and leadership development programs, primarily in Call Centers. Over the past few years she has refined her penchant—and fueled her passion—for storytelling and has helped clients tell their story through product demoing, executive tours
and presentations. She is also a co-founder of the Young Entrepreneur Convention (more at right).
And there’s more.“In January 2015, I
parlayed my passion and skill of story telling into podcasting where I Co-Founded and launched the She Did It Her Way Podcast, a podcast dedicated to featuring savvy, female business entrepreneurs from across the globe,” Boleyn says.
“These badass women share their insights and stories so others can do it their way too.”

ANDFINALLY...
Words ofWISDOMfrom some of our favoritefolks.
“The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desire brings weak results, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat.”
“You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”
“When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.”
“Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some
failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do. More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.”
“Set your mind on a definite goal and observe how quickly the world stands aside to let you pass.”
“The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.”
“A quitter never wins-and-a winner never quits.”
“Happiness is found in
doing, not merely possessing.”
“Every adversity, every failure, every heartbreak, carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”
“More gold had been mined
from the mind of men than
the earth it self”
“An educated man is not, necessarily, one who has an abundance of general or specialized knowledge. An educated man is one who has so developed the faculties of his mind that he may acquire anything he wants, or its equivalent, without violating the rights of others.”
