is divided among the Non-Profit organizations that staff the store. The agreement is for the Village Store to build this new facility at the back end of Parking Lot # 3. They will not operate the facility during Market Day so the loss in park-ing space will only be where the building is located. This should be a win win for the community providing more items sold trough the thrift shop which is out of room resulting in more funds going to the non-profits of the community. The Lions with get better utilization out its resources better serving the community.

Zone Meeting held in Wimberley

Pictured left to right are Stan Luczkowski, Sharon Goss, Rogers Holt, Bev Nesmith, PDG Dave Slider, Zone

Chair Les Kubena, Lee Gibson, Barry Tyler, Lane Hartsock, President Lonnie Duke and Fred Carney.

Not pictured is Dick Adams.

Zone IV-B Chair, Les Kubena, discussed DG Gary Cocanougher’s Focal Points based on his motto “Vision of

Dreams”. October/November goals will be on Sight and White Cane Day and December/January will be fo-

cused on hunger and each club is being asked to “Adopt a Family” in their community. In April, the goal will be

on the Environment and our District will be expected to plant 1,000 trees. Trees can be donated but we need

to come up with a plan to meet this goal.

The mid-winter conference will be held on January 28, 2012 in McQueeney, TX and the District Convention will

be held on April 20-21 in Georgetown, TX. The MD2 State Convention will be held in Houston from May 17-19,

2012. Les talked about the 2013 District Convention that will be hosted by our District and they will need lots

of help as it gets closer. It will be held at the Airport Hilton in Austin in May, 2013.

An interesting discussion was held about Membership, Retention, Recognition, websites and newsletters. It is

key that we keep communication open with all members of our clubs. It was a very information session and en-

joyed by all. Lee Gibson

Market Day Cleanup

The Saturday before Market Day is Lions Field Cleanup day. The club sends out an email announc-ing it and requesting volunteers to come out and participate. That starts with coffee and donuts pro-vided - and many come a little early to visit (and perhaps discus the previous night’s football game). Field Mgr Jack Bourke sends them out with pick-up grippers and a plastic bag to collect all the small trash on the field and the parking lots. The usual turnout is 15 to 20 Lions and sometimes volun-teers from local organizations who reciprocate service with our Lions Club. One group who seem to consistently show up to help are the local Scouts. This picture is most of last Saturday’s (Sept 24th) group from Pack 127. They had 12 scouts along with their leaders (One whom is one of our newest Lion members, Dr Eric Price). They walked all over the parking lot and cleaned it up everything that wasn’t growing or tied down. And back at the field, all those stale do-nuts disappeared also.
