Out of School Hours Care Redevelopment I hesitate to get excited as we have had so many delays… BUT… we have had approval for
the scope of works, and a tentative date set for removal in the school holidays. This may
mean a limited service for Vacation Care and we will let you know as soon as we hear any
further information. The project looks fantastic and will provide us not only with a
purpose built space, but also allow us to regain the use of our drama room!
Play Rules We have recently undertaken whole school collaboration around yard rules. Students,
teachers, SSO’s and Leadership all contributed to a document to ensure we all know the
rules for the yard and can follow them to play safely and successfully. One of the rules
we are having the most difficulty with is no food on the oval. We are looking at ways to
minimise rubbish including updating our recycling and collections. When we talk to
children about the rules we reinforce the message that:
Children at Willunga Primary School play in a safe and courteous manner with respect for
other people in the play space. If they see a problem, they report it to the yard duty
teacher.
At times, some children find these rules difficult to follow. We then use logical
consequences to support them to make informed choices i.e. loss of play privileges,
supervised play, asked to sit out, walk with a teacher or follow another logical
consequence. When talking to your child at home about yard behaviour, it is helpful to
support them to make sure they are ‘following the rules’ and the above code of conduct.
All behaviour is a learning opportunity for our children before they are old enough to
learn difficult lessons in society.
School Uniform We are also collaborating with parents, students and staff around uniform across our
site. Currently we are noticing quite a few children not in full Willunga uniform. Although
we understand that it is a difficult time of year to be getting jumpers dry, we do need to
maintain our uniform standard. Classes are discussing why we need to wear a uniform
and looking at how we can make sure that all students are in uniform. This includes
looking at the use of SAPSASA or sporting jumpers (which are not part of our school
uniforms should not be worn to school). Parent Connection Committee are also
committed to supporting full uniform implementation and considering “Swap a Top”
uniform tops for students who come to school out of uniform. We will update you on
this process as it unfolds but please talk to your child about wearing full uniform (hard at
times in winter we know!!) and speak to a Leader if you need support with this

MasterChef: This year we were
lucky
enough
to have
Samuel
Whitehead to present our
winners with their prize.
Samuel was in this year’s
Masterchef. Our winners
were Hermoine, Charlette
and Maya from team ‘Just
Keep Cooking’. We really
appreciate Samuel giving
up his time to do this. He
also stayed around to sign
many autographs for some very excited students!
Samuel has a stall at Willunga Farmer’s Market selling
delicious probiotic rich food & drinks and if you
checkout the website
www.gutfeelingfermentation.com it will show you
how you can look into some hands on fermentation
workshops. Thanks again Samuel and well done girls,
keep up the great cooking!
Lots of students have joined up for Willunga’s Got
Talent. Students have up unto the 18th of August to
sign up. Performances will start in week 5. Whilst we
do have winners in the following categories: Most
Entertaining, Encouragement, Rising Talent, People’s
Choice Junior and People’s Choice Senior we aim to
also emphasise that it is about participating and giving
it a go.
Some time back I went to a training day and the
presenter asked us for 3mins to write down what
comes to mind when you hear the word Mental
Health. Most people wrote down words like
depression, anxiety, low self-esteem etc. There were
only a few people who wrote things down that were
related to Good Mental Health and aiming to have
Good Mental Health. In the busyness of life we can
tend to neglect fostering our own Good Mental
Health. Over the next few newsletters we will look at
a few things we can all do that will help keep us in
Good Mental Health.

Leon highlighted a community grant application
that could be accessed by people in the

information is available at:
fundmyneighbourhood.sa.gov.au
We also spoke to him about the school toilets and
how we are not happy with their suitability to cater
efficiently to our school community. Ali will follow
this up with an email to Leon.
SAPSASA NEWS
On Wednesday 9th August students participated in the SAPSASA State Basketball Competition held at
Morphett Vale Stadium.
Last Wednesday we participated in SAPSASA State Basketball. We won 2 games, drew 1 and lost 3.
The day was very challenging and we faced some hard teams. Our team was the Willunga Wildcats.
Thank you to Petrina for coaching us.
Alex b and Ryan K
Last Wednesday we participated in the SAPSASA Girls Basketball. Although our team didn’t win any of
our six games, we persisted and tried our best out on the court. Willunga’s team name was the
Wildcats and we wore black, red and white uniforms.
Shout out to Hannah who had to leave early due to a wrist injury.
All up it was a great day and a good experience, we had lots of fun.
A big thank you to Petrina K for coaching us.
Hannah W, Shari P, Ruby L.
Bakery Lunch Success A huge thank you to the group of parent helpers that came along to manage the
bakery lunch last week. Along with being delicious and supporting the local bakery, we raised nearly $700 for our school.
Students Doing Great Things
The last week of term 2 I travelled to Mackay in
Queensland for 9 days to compete in the Australian
National Indoor Cricket Competition for South Australia
along with 9 other girls.
We won 3 games against QLD, ACT and NSW BLUE but
unfortunately lost 5 so we just missed out on the finals.
I still had the best time ever and we made history by
being the first South Australian Girls 14 and under team
to compete and represent the state!!!
I got 8 wickets overall in the games I played and I will
be working very hard to play for South Australia again
next year.
Well Done Lilly!
BOOK WEEK
How are your costume ideas going?
Remember we are looking for some good recycling / making do options this year. Come as a book character, or even a book!
Think about where you can escape to with books - a pirate ship, a space ship, under the sea, another country, another time ... there's lots of possibilities!
A reminder for hats this term.
As per the Sunsmart policy, all students are
required to wear hats in terms 1, 3 and 4.
Hats are available from the office for $10-
$12.
Please ensure that your child has
their hat daily for outside play.

OSHC NEWS
School Closure Day Reminder! 1st September OSHC IS CLOSED!
It is a school closure day, OSHC staff use this time to catch up on training/planning. Our program focus at the moment is about our pets. Children who attend OSHC are welcome to bring in a photo of their pet/s or favourite animal. We are encouraging children to write or draw about this also. These are being displayed on the wall in the OSHC room. Over the last couple of weeks, we have welcomed Ga Hyuan Lee (Olivia) from South Korea into OSHC. Olivia has been teaching us some Korean words, numbers and games. We have looked at the South Korean flag and a world map to see how far away South Korea is from Australia and the size difference of both countries. Belinda Filkin OSHC Director
FINANCE NEWS
Thank you to all families who have made
arrangements or finalised payment of their School
Fees. It is an expectation that all school fees be
finalised and as a school we endeavour to work
with families to ensure that all Fees are paid. The
parent contribution of School Fees is extremely
important to ensuring we can purchase equipment

Garden Working Bee
Calling all gardeners and nature appreciators!! Now is an excellent time to pull out the weeds that are attempting to take over our school gardens. The ground is soft and the weeds are slipping out easily (no need for resorting to poisons) It’s time to spread some mulch and get our garden beds prepped for Summer. Time: 9am – 11am Date: Thursday 24 August
Place: Meet at the Garden Shed in the vegetable compound on the Western side of the school What to bring: Tools, barrows and buckets are at the shed, so just bring your own creature comforts –
e.g. Gloves, hat, water bottle, jacket. Little hands welcome – the more the merrier
For more information call Meredith on 0438 633 100.
***A huge thank you to the rogue gardener who has weeded near the
North Eastern car park - Love your work! *** We’ve booked in some sun but if it’s raining we’ll postpone it to the following week via the ‘Skoolbag
App’. So weather permitting, we look forward to seeing you then. Happy grubbing, Grounds Committee
