distribute your media product and why?

A distribution company is responsible for the marketing of a film. The distributor can set the release date for the movie to come out. Or in other words, when It will be viewed on these platforms, (DVD, video-on-demand, download, television programs through broadcast syndication etc.).

A distributor may do this directly if it is a major company. A limited distributor may deal only with particular products, such as DVDs or Blu-ray, or may act in a particular country or market.

What is a distribution company?

as 'The Big Six'. These are, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, Universal, Paramount and Columbia.

Their films include the big blockbusters, high concept films and mass marketed films that appeal to big audiences. They usually have bigger budgets and these businesses are set up to make money from the films.

Independent Film Companies Independent film companies are nothing to do with the the big

major companies. They usually tell a story rather than make so much money. Often gaining money through sources, therefore, their budget can be a lot smaller. Many of the successful independents have been taken over by major studios or conglomerates. Examples of independent film companies, Summit Entertainment, Warpfilms, Lionsgate, BBC Films.

What distribution company would we use?

I think our film would be interested by the film distribution company, metronome distribution. They brought out a thriller called resistance in 2011, and would be likely, being a small independent British company to distribute ours as well. I think our film would appeal to UK audiences, most probably not appealing to rest of the world. They have released a lot of drama based thriller films so are likely to distribute our thriller.

Who would our film appeal to?

I think our film would appeal to the younger generation, between teenagers to mid twenties. If it was brought out in the cinema , it would most likely in the highest percentage of people to see it would be teenagers, because of the thriller based edge to the film, as it is also based around college life which they may be experiencing as well.
