The EightAt the Macbeth Gallery The Eight were a progressive group of American reporter-illustrators turned artists. Flaunting the National Academy of Design, they mounted their own independent exhibition at the Macbeth Gallery in New York. This successful exhibition, daring for its era, spiked an interest in realistic, gritty depictions of urban life. The Eight also included John Sloan, George Luks, Everett Shinn, Arthur B. Davies, Ernest Lawson, Maurice B. Prendergast, and Robert Henri.
