Welcome to my portfolio! As a humble architecture student from the University of Waterloo, I have here compiled a few works of exploration, and education.

I hope to explore the different means of architecture and delevop my own understanding and expression

FLOW

Flow is a self sustaining organism in which the challenge was to create medium-high density apartment buildings on conventional-size city lots.

It is a self sustaining residence that speaks to creating apartment buildings with extremely limited parking, compact core; to maximize residential surface area, adaptability for future changes, and housing some sort of commercial/ institutional occupancy at ground level.

The facade shapes the windows to allow the most suitable light into the resi-dential space and to block harsh south light. I wanted to explore how views can change based on the funcition of the room.

ROTATION

“Rotation” is a joint studio project where the main premises was to take backcorner yard spaces ad alleyways and design a residential building in the form of separate units, or apartments.

We decided to create two units of the same dimension but different in composition. These units would rotate 90 degrees from the same entrance, and would also stack perpendicular on each floor to create balcony spaces for the units above.

STREAM

Stream is proposed as an elevated, multipurpose walkway. It is lifted 5m off the ground to allow cars to pass, but at a level at which it would not disrupt the building’s north view.

Circulation is split into two paths, one for cyclers, and one for pedestrians. Along the path there are sections for gardening, and a central communal space for citizens and tourists. Stream allows tourists and citizens to delve off water street and experience a spetacular view while immersing themselves to the local vegetations and art.

The column placement and the cover is curved around the plant zones to allow full natural conditions while curving to create the dome for the public space. The column placement is indicated by the blue stripes which are displaced 10 metres apart. the cover is a mix of regional pinewood and glass.

The pattern of the cover is an expression of space as people more towards north, where it is much more open and full of views of Vancouver, the planks of pinewood is reduced and the glass increases. this also allows for more natural light to enter the walkway.

The public space is placed on ground level stretching for 70m. It is placed at a point where the side buildings have no function or windows.

The public space is primarily seen as a sheltered gallery where local artists can display and show their work. It is also a place for reflection and rest, a meeting place for the cyclists and the

pedestrians.

The form of the columns mainly look like this, with variations only in the elongation of the cover support and the height. the column also provides seating, a 1.5m bench that protrudes from both sides, each with enough distance for 2-3 users.

INFINITY BOX

An infinitely transformable space that can change and morph into almost any configuration . The infinity box consists of a modular unit that houses steel panels which unfold to create the desired space. Each panel has motion and can either be solid or perforated, allowing for diversity in the shading and lighting of the space.

The Infinity box features a minimal use of heavy steel and instead, relying on easy-to-assemble steel framing that screws into place. This helps to create a form that not only is temporary and quick to set up, but is also capable of constant change in form,

The gallery pavillion acts not only as a display for art, but also as a pathway. 3-d art is undercovered but exposed on all sides while 2-d art is shown, set on the mobile steel panels. By varying different angles of each set of steel panels, opens up spaces for natural light to come in at comfortable angles while the perforated steel panels filter direct sunlight to create interesting patterns on the ground.

GALLERY

The market pavillion is an exploration of compression and release. At the ends of the pavillion the space is rather grand and tall but the space soon begins to stretch out as one moves towards the middle. The middle section of the paviillion is to serve as a more intimate space where street performers can work with a more engaged and close crowd. across from the steel panels are various sized spaces for stalls to be set up.

The shelter pavillion’s main focus is to create various degrees of initmacy using two different types of steel panels. The closest steel panel creates the most intimate threshold experience before one enters their shelter, the other panels create a semi-private space in which light is filtered through the perforated steel side panels. The shelters are grouped in sets of three in order to create a triangular public space for the refugees.

The first aid pavillion is a quickly asembled space that acts as both a first aid camp but also as a food distribution landmark. The pavillion is divided into two separate sections to help control circulation wihle the stell panels rise higher and higher to not only create openings for the south sunlight to come through, but also maximizes undercover space where the steel panels angle to meet the ground..

MEETING

Meeting is shelter from the elements. a place that protects the traveler. it is a place to rest, and rejuvenate, placing the traveler in a comfortable microclimate allowing the traveler to acknowledge the extreme nature of the landscape without experienceing it at full scale. Meeting is orientated east to west to take maximum solar benefits. white concrete is used to reflect sunlight. meeting is mostly open to allow air circulation with the indoor resting space as the only interior space which act as a shelter for both the hot summers and the cold winters.

circulation in correspondence with the small slit windows to be utilized for air flow.

The structure is set into the site of a hill to utilize the earth as a source of interior cooling while the floors are tiled for the traveler’s comfort. the microclimate is achieved by situating the oasis between a small stream that with filter into the nasser lake. there travelers can admire the small vegetation and relax next to the

running water. thick concrete walls utilize the time-lag effect, while a curving roof defines the oasis while proving shade for the outdoor terrace.

THE DINING ROOM

The focus of designing this rowhouse was to focus on creating an intimate family connection with the emphasis on dining. to me, dining seemed to me almost as a forced family activity so i wanted to use dining as the catalyst to bring a family together.

With a cut out courtyard this rowhouse provides both interior and exterior dining experiences to accomodate for the seasons. the courtyard acts as the main exterior area for family interation, while a double height living room forms the main interior celebrated space for the family.

SHENZHEN BOWAN

During employment with Shenzhen Bowan, my tasks included laying out brick patterns on elevations, figuring out various mesh hole sizes, site section cuts, building section cuts, and modeling buildings and sites in rhino and sketchup. I had a great opportunity to work in different programs along with different projects from libraries, to hotels, to masterplanning residential complexes.
