PROJECT BRIEF


The Situation• The Situation is: SWA is in need of more student or they can shut down. I

am suppose to make an advertisement that can bring more students to come to SWA.

• Client: My client is SWA.

• Time: Time limit is 8 weeks.

• Task: I’m going to use the design cycle to make an effective advertisement so I can bring more students to SWA. I will research about different types of advertisement and use one that I found most effective.

• Unit Question: How does advertising manipulate our actions?

• AOI: Human Ingenuity.


Introduction

My client is the Sinarmas World Academy. They are running low on students and they need to get new students or they will close down. The school wants an advertisement that will attract new students so they won’t close down. I need to make a bright advertisement that will attract both parents and student alike. I will create the advertisement throughout this term by following the design cycle. I will investigate different types of advertisement from different school and choose the best 1. Then I will design an advertisement that will attract both students and parents. I will then carefully craft a time management before proceeding to create my product. After creating it I will evaluate my whole progress and performance throughout this entire term. I will try to work hard so I won’t be late in submitting this product. The product will be based on many factors like Form, Software, Hardware, Function, Cost, Aesthetic, Style, and Target.


AOI

This project’s AOI will be human ingenuity because I will need to be creative and create an advertisement that will attract people. Human ingenuity is all about creativity and I need to be creative and create an eye-capturing advertisement. I will use my research and my own knowledge to do this. I will investigate, design, plan, and create this product. This is why this project fits the human ingenuity rather than the other.


Interview questionHow much are you willing to pay? Less than $10. We don’t want to spend too much money on advertisement because we need them for other expenses. And we don’t think the advertisement would be equal of what we pay if it’s more.What kind of information should be in the advertisement?We want the advertisement to have information about our activities, ex program, technology, and our education.Are you interested in more words or picture?I am more interested in pictures. Because we don’t think that the public like reading much.Should we direct this to students or parents?We actually would like that both of them are attracted because if the student don’t agree, he won’t progress well. Client Interview Summary

From the Interview !om my client, now I know what kind of information should I put in my advertisement. I learned that the price of the advertisement should only be less than 10$. I learned that the client wants more picture than words. The goal is now clear that I must attract at least 50 students. And the advertisement should attract both parents and students.

Case Study Summary

❖ When researching about advertisement, I try to find the most interesting and easiest to create. I did this so I won’t have too much trouble in the create stage. The cost does not exceed the maximum limit that my client can afford except for one . All of the three advertisement attracts people to come. I think this will help me in the design stage where I will have to create 6 different designs. This helps so I can create some unique designs.


Impact to Environment

I don’t think the advertisement that I will create will cause some damages to the wood. I think so because I think I’m gonna make a poster/brochure which will cost some papers. And to create papers we need to cut down trees. But other than that I don’t think the environment will be damaged by my product.


IMPACT TO SOCIETY

THIS PRODUCT WILL CAUSE PEOPLE TO COME ENROLL THEIR CHILDREN TO SWA. BUT THE STUDENT FOR OTHER SCHOOL WOULD DECREASE AND THEY WON’T PRODUCE AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY USED TO. AND MORE STUDENTS WILL NEED MORE TEACHER SO MORE FAMILIES WILL GAIN MONEY FOR THEIR NEEDS.


Design Brief

✤ I am going to create an advertisement to attract more people to come to SWA. I will research different types of advertisement so I can choose the most effective one. I am gonna use the design cycle to help me in creating my advertisement. In the investigate stage I will research different types of advertisement and choose the best. I will also do a research of why SWA is lacking students. In the design stage I will create several designs of advertisement that I can use after investigating about advertising. Then I will choose one that I think is the best. In the plan stage I will go and create the gantt chart and step by step of when I’m doing my work. In the create stage I will create my advertisement. In the evaluation stage I will evaluate my performance in this whole project.

SUMMARY OF INVESTIGATION

I did the interview so I would know how would the school want the advertisement. What should it look like, the function, the cost of the advertisement etc

The case study on 3 different advertisement gave me a better information about form, how should it looks like, cost etc

Researching about the impact to both society and environment make me aware of the effect I cause both the environment and society.

The specification will be a guide to use when creating designs of the advertisement. I will draw the design and evaluate them based on the specification. This will help me make the best product that I can create.

Summary of the Designs

Design 1: My first design is a website that people can go to and read about the school. This website can be easily found if you search in Google for schools. But creating a website is something new for me so I may not be able to do it in time. I also need to have time to research about how to create a website so it may take longer than the limit.

Design 2: My second design is a poster. This can be put anywhere and people may see and get interested in it. It is also easy to make and I have made a lot before. But some people who is not very attentive may not found the poster. But poster may be doodled by people and they cost money to create and put on the wall.

Design 3: My third design is a movie. Movie maybe the most interesting for some people. But the bad thing is movies take some time to buffer and a lot of people got impatient and just close it instead. I also think movies will took a long time to make and I don’t like making movies anyway so it may not be the best choice.

Design 4: My fourth design is a flyer. This can be copied and spread to a lot of place. But then we may be shy when spreading this flyers out. It also cost some money to copy and print this whole paper. Also a lot of people don’t take flyers or they just throw it away after taking it.

Design 5: My fifth design is a blog. Blog also can be found easily if people search in Google. But I only have little experience with a blog. I have not created a blog before so it may be hard for me to create 1 out of the blue like this. Also blog must be updated and I don’t think I can keep on updating it.

Design 6: My sixth and final design is a movie again. It have most of the quality that the other design have. It also still have the problem of the other design. Which is taking a very long time to create. I also don’t like creating movie very much so it may not be the best design to choose.


PARTNER OPINION

I think that the design 2 is the best since it looks better than the rest of the design. I also think that it is easy to make since you already make it and you can finish the create stage easily. I think you need to improve it a little bit to make it better.

I’m gonna choose design 2 because I think it’s the best. I also have my friend’s opinion to help me. He also choosed design 2 as the best design that I should make. So I’m going to create it.

Ease of Creation This will take so fast to create because it’s very easy. I have done this a lot of time

so I shouldn’t have any problem.


Development + Final DesignI made a little modification so people would be more interested. I add more stars and add another invitation to the poster. Since I am used to creating posters like this, I don’t have any problem adding a little detail. I think this will have more people come even with just a little more detail. I think this will attract way more students than the previous advertisement, and may attract enough people to come to this school.

Materials Used• I’m going to use the SWA website to find out about information about

SWA. I decided to use this website because it’s the official website and it will have a lot of good information

• I will use the software Pages to create my poster. I decided to use pages because I can use the already provided templates to create a good and easy poster. I am also already used of using this software.

• I am going to use the internet to find pictures for my poster. I will use the internet because there will be a lot of picture, and it’s easy to find.

• I will use a printer to print my posters. I need to do this so I can spread the poster in a large number across Java.

• I will use some hammer and nail to post my poster.


Evaluation of the Plan

• I think this plan is detailed enough. I think so because people can follow my plan. I think so because I have given time details and pictures of what should they do. I’ve also given them the software to use to create the product. I also told them to print and use hammer and nail to post it. I think I’ve already used all resources that are available to use.

IT Journal 3/10/11

Today I started making my poster by choosing the template I want. The template I want should look interesting and colorful and have balanced information and pictures. Then I researched for pictures to use in my poster. Then I started creating some part of it. I need to continue making the poster so it would look better. Also it’s not finished and it still needs a lot of information and pictures.

Today I created more of the poster. I started to write the information I got from the SWA official website. I tried to make not too much words so people will be more interested to read, rather than them just getting bored by just looking from afar. I wrote mostly invitations to the school rather than a lot of information so people would just come to the school. I thought I can finish this today but I can’t.


IT Journal 7/10/11

Today I finished my poster. But after I looked at it, it really lacks information so I’m going to fix it next class. I did this fast because there was nothing much to do after all the information is in. All I need to do was to add a little more pictures so people would be interested. I also slightly add a little information about how we rarely use pencil and paper, but we use laptop. Also I add information about the location of this school and a number to contact. I was not having much of a hard time creating this poster.

Today I looked at it again, but then I think it lacks information. So I think that I really need to put more information because when I look at it doesn’t have much of information. Most of it are just pictures. I put some interesting points of the school in bullet points so it’s not much reading for lazy people. I decreased the size of the picture to make space for the information. I was experiencing no trouble during this lesson. But then I felt that there’s a little bit of space under the title. But I can’t seem to find anything to put down there.

Today I check on it again and see if I can find anything to fix/improve. I also want to fill in that space under the title so the poster will look complete. I fixed some of the information, which has mistakes. I was having trouble to find out what can be put there to fill in the gap. I’ll just put some patterns to make it look cool and interesting for people to see. I’ll use Tux Paint to create the pattern. I’m quite used to this so it won’t be very hard to create a good pattern.

Today I’m asking for feedback from my friends to see what can I improve in this particular poster. I need feedback because I’m out of idea to what can I improve in the poster. After I’m asking some people’s feedback I’m told to add more information about how to contact the school or how to see more in detail. Then because of this I add the school website to the poster.

Today I asked for feedback to my friends about my product. They say that it has good information but it lack pictures. They also say that it lacked color so I tried to add more of that. I failed to add more color because I don’t know how to change the color of the textbox. Also it’s very hard to put more pictures since the spaces are very limited but I managed to do so.

Today I tried to change the colors of the textbox again so it would be more colorful. I searched the Internet on how to do it. But then my friend next to me just showed the way. So I do so and it’s actually pretty easy. I just need to click the textbox that I want the color to change, then hover to the toolbar and go to the icon that looks like a white rectangle split by a line going sideways. Then choose the color I want. I changed the textbox and the text color to add more colorful touch to it.

I asked my friends opinion on my poster again so I can improve it. They say that it’s good but the they can’t see the picture clearly because it’s blocked by words. After that I immediately start to rearrange the word and picture so it would look better. I also changed some of the font color because I think if I don’t they will say now it’s hard to read it.

I asked my friends again on how could I improve my poster. They said it was very good but the only problem lies in the top title in green, which is hard to read. I tried a lot of different color, both bright and dark and nothing seems to do the trick. Then I finally realized I have to change the font type to make it clearer which I did. Now it’s clear and I really think it’s a good work.

Performance at each Stagen Investigate: I think I did a good job in the investigate stage. I gathered all the information I need to

create my product, and also look at examples. I did this efficiently. I had problems on getting a school advertisement that did not come from the web and I actually did not get any advertisement and used another one from the internet.

n Design: In design I created 6 different designs: 1 poster, 1 flyer, 1 website, 1 blog, and 2 movies. I think I can be more creative in creating the movie because it’s nearly the same. I also think I can do a different design instead of a movie like podcast.

n Plan: Plan stage is the easiest in the whole project. I think so because I only need to make 5 slides. It also doesn’t require a lot of time to do, and there’s particularly nothing hard in this stage. But I think I talked a lot with my friend in this stage.

n Create: Create stage I created a journal to keep track of what I’ve been doing per lesson in the create stage. I also created my product at the same time. I actually finished the product at design stage, but I think I can improve a lot more, which I did. I didn’t do all 10 blog post because I forgotten about it. I only made 9 blog posts. But I think that other than that, I think I did a good job.

n Evaluation: In this stage, I evaluated the whole process of the project. I also am evaluating the evaluate stage, even though it sounds dumb. I followed a paper instructions to finish this stage. I did this stage without a problem, and I think it’s not too hard.

Successful Points

• I think the most successful part in this whole project is the design stage. I think so because I finished everything at time, and I did not encounter any real difficulties. I also think my designs were good. I think that the reason that I have such good result in the create stage is because my first draft design is good. Actually I finished the first draft of my actual product in the design stage, then what I do is continue improving it and making it better with feedbacks.


Least Successful Points

• I think that the least successful point in my whole project is the planning stage. I think so because I think this is where I make something that is completely not usable in the next stage. Although it’s “supposed” to help I don’t think I did the create stage with the help of my planning.


Modification/Improvements

• I think I would create a brochure instead of a poster next time. I think so because it will have more information. It would also still have a lot of pictures, and I can be more creative. There will also be more pages to create because it’s a brochure. But it will be harder and longer to create.


Client Peer to PeerAre you pleased with the result?Yes I’m pleased with the result, because it looks nice, have pictures, and balanced information. I think the poster is very good and we! done. It’s also colorful and it did not cost too much.

Do you have anything to add to the product?I don’t have anything to add, because I think it’s already fine as is. But if you think there’s other thing to improve please do because we’re not the expert on this area.

Did the product attract the student you need?Yes it did attract the student we need, which is great. We now have more income and less problem. I think this product rea!y did do it’s job. It’s also worth the money we paid.

Wi! you ask for help on this again?I think we wi!, because this product is so pleasing that if we need help again, we probably would ask for your help again.


Impact to Environment

My creation will cause some damage to the forest and wildlife. I say this because my product is a poster that needs some paper. Those paper are produced by cutting woods. I also would need a lot of paper to spread it, so it would cost some woods and money. But not until extreme.


Impact to Society

MY PRODUCT CREATED A LOT OF STUDENTS TO COME TO THE SCHOOL. THEY ARE ALL EXCITED TO TRY AND LEARN IN SWA. BUT THE PROBLEM IS, OTHER SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL DECREASE, SO IT WILL CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS. SOME TEACHERS WILL BE HIRED AND SOME WILL BE FIRED BECAUSE TEACHERS WILL BE HIRED IF THE SCHOOL NEEDS MORE TEACHER, AND OTHER TEACHERS WILL BE FIRED BECAUSE THERE’S LESS STUDENT TO TEACH.
