Rick Durham – Superintendent Spring is right around the corner so that means it’s time to talk about aerification. We are doing things a little different this year with timing and hole size. The first aerification scheduled is March 16th and 17th and we will be using a ½ inch solid tine. This simply means that a hole ½ inch in diameter will be punched into greens with no removal of soil. This will allow air and water to penetrate and help with some minor relief of compaction. Recovery time will be quick with little disruption. A larger aerification will be completed in April and I will cover it in next month’s newsletter. Rail road tie replacement, adding sand to traps and tree removal are a few of the items that February weather has affected and now that the weather is improving these items will be addressed in March. I would like to thank everyone for the positive comments and encourage everyone to fill out comment cards. Comment cards are an excellent way for us to hear your comments and continue to improve important areas. As always I can be reached via e-mail at [email protected].

Jeff Engelhaupt – General Manager March will officially kick off what looks to be a busy season for us. Due to school matches that these schools

host we will have a few times that are restricted to members only. Unfortunately, due to blocks on the tee sheet for these member only times, online booking will not be allowed. Please grab a calendar near March 1st for more information and days that are restricted for only members Looking ahead, we will plan to have member only blocks on March 10th, 19th and 24th. Depending on school availability we may have to add in some more throughout the month so please be sure to call the golf shop if you cannot find the tee time you are looking for online. Through the month of March we will continue our social events such as Thirsty Third Thursday, Bingo, Poker and our After Dark Dinners. Grab a calendar and sign up early! We are expecting some of the biggest crowds ever this coming year for our social events. They will surely not be events to miss out on! Starting March 1st we will sell range balls until 6:00 PM and we will open the range a half hour before play begins with the exception of Mondays (which opens at 8:30 AM). We do have to restrict the last bucket sold to 6:00 PM in order to clean the range and restock our inventory for the following day. As we move forward I am asking everyone to not take baskets or range balls home with them. All baskets and balls should remain on Wildwood Green property at all times. Any baskets that are not fully hit should be returned to the Golf Shop or the starter shack when in operation. Thank you for your cooperation and help in keeping our baskets fully stocked! In case you have not seen it yet, our event schedule has been posted to the website and you can view it here. Along with a complete event schedule and tournament book you can also view the Package Event information and registration sheet along with the information and registration sheet for the Match Play Championship. Be sure to sign up early for the Package Events and Match Play Championship! The last note I want to touch upon will be the rules and regulations of walking during the season. Starting March 28th we will restrict member walking to after 11:00 AM on weekends and holidays while in season. Our "season" runs from March through November and we will lift these rules in November (roughly middle of November). A date to announce the lifted walking restrictions will be sent later in the year once we get closer to November. The general public will only be allowed to walk after 2:00 PM giving you the opportunity to book well ahead of any non-members! We hope to see you at the course soon whether it be for golf or a social event. Let's all be on the lookout for nicer days and take advantage of them when they do come! The staff and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Thomas LaDew – Operations Manager With warmer weather quickly approaching, we hope to see more of our members enjoying the course and the practice facilities! Since it has been a few months since the facilities have been heavily used I just wanted to share a few updates coming in the spring of 2015. We will be utilizing a brand new range rotation that will hopefully allow for more use of our natural grass areas as opposed to using the mats at peak usage times throughout the week. The new breakdown is as follows:

Monday and Tuesday – Grass, Irons Only Wednesday and Thursday – Grass, Drivers Allowed from Last Four Stations

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – Mats Only You will notice that there is some information on proper divot taking on the bulletin board in front of the driving range. We encourage you to follow the parallel line pattern to help us keep as much grass as we can throughout the season! In addition, our driving range rules and regulations are posted on the same board. Our policies have not changed, but as always, please adhere to our rules and regulations! Now that we will be having a large increase of rounds played per day, we are bringing back our pace of play program! Just fill out the card provided at the Golf Shop counter. This helps us tremendously in keeping the pace manageable and keeping your round of golf fun and carefree! Our Adopt-a-Hole program is back in full force. The member groups responsible for the upkeep of each hole did an excellent job last year! We heard many compliments in

the Golf Shop about the cleanliness; let’s keep up the good work and keep Wildwood Green beautiful!

Jeff Sgroi – Food and Beverage Manager February was more quiet than January here at Bogey’s. The snow delays and closings

were not part of the plan... We had to postpone both our events one week due to the weather. Two of the Saturday morning buffets were also cancelled. Speaking of Saturday morning buffets, starting this month we will switch back to an 8:00 am start. March 19th will be the “Thirsty 3rd Thursday” date. Look for the Evite email. If you do not receive email invitations and updates and would like to be on the mailing list, please forward me your name and email address to [email protected] and I will add you to the list. Our After Dark dinner will be on Friday night the 13th this month. We will have one seating at 7:00pm. Be sure to call Bogey’s and make your reservation! The menu will be released soon. We lost one of our favorite customers last month, Fred Flowers. Fred was always very kind and generous to all of us that had the pleasure to serve him. He will be greatly missed. Keep the suggestions and comment cards coming! They are very much appreciated. I can be reached at sgroi@wildwoodgreen. Bogey’s is looking forward to serve you!

We are sad to announce the passing of Fred Flowers He will be greatly missed by the staff and his fellow Wildwood Green Members!

Frederick "Fred" Leigh Flowers, 64, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Born in Buffalo, New York on May 19, 1950, he was the son of Evelyn Rhodes Flowers and the late Enoch Dorron Flowers. Fred graduated from Broughton High School and went on to work for several local businesses before starting Hi-Tech Fabrication, along with his business partner Joseph Barbee. After a very long and successful career, Fred retired at the age of 50. Those of us who knew and loved Fred know that he was never bored in retirement. He was very inquisitive and always willing to try new things. Fred was an avid fisherman and hunter. He developed a real love of fly-fishing which took him to the Bahamas often. He became interested in stock car racing and for some years traveled as part of the "race team" for a local driver. Woodworking was his next passion and we soon discovered that Fred could build anything. His need to be the very best at anything he attempted and his attention to detail brought forth some truly unique and beautiful pieces. Fred also had a passion for golf and played off and on throughout his life and became his final love. He worked hard at getting his game back and enjoyed the camaraderie of his golfing buddies. Fred was preceded in death by his beloved father, Don and brother Donnie. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine, his mother Evelyn, sister in-law Sandra and several cousins, his daughter Sheri Hagerty and grandson McCabe Hagerty of Raleigh and daughter René Wilson, her husband Miles Wilson and newest grand-daughter Eleanor Wilson of Los Angeles, California. So our son, husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, Fred is gone, but the special love and light he brought to all of our lives will live forever in our hearts. He was one very special person who asked very little and gave so much.

Tiger Woods, Lost in the Desert by Matthew Futterman, Wall Street Journal Back when Tiger Woods was collecting major championship trophies like mantel decorations, he had a signature line he used when asked how he felt heading into a tournament. "Hopefully I can break 80," Woods would deadpan before flashing a cocky grin. Those words suddenly gained new meaning Friday when Woods shot a stunning 82 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, giving him a two-round total of 13-over-par 155. That sent him back home to Florida on a weekend when he figured to play himself into shape for 2015 and maybe catch the Super Bowl on the other side of the metro area after an early finish Sunday. Suddenly, nothing about Woods seems remotely certain. He promised to keep fighting and "grinding" -- one of his favorite words these days -- after his round Friday. He even joked that he was only speaking to the press so he wouldn't get fined, a reference to the refrain of Seattle Seahawks star Marshawn Lynch on Super Bowl media day. Yet there are some problems even Woods can't solve, including age and a body that seems to be quickly breaking down. To be sure, Woods, who just turned 39, will get better. Recovering from back surgery last year, he has played just a handful of competitive rounds the past six months. He is trying to adjust to a more shallow swing and a new grind on his wedge, and he is still figuring out how far he can hit each club with his surgically repaired back. The result for now, though, is downright ugly, especially in the tee box, where Woods's swing -- never the most effortless motion on the tour -- suddenly looks like a losing battle with father time. There were moments this week when it was hard not to think of Willie Mays stumbling around in center field in his final season with the Mets. Friday was a miserable wet day here that could cause anyone fits, but Thursday was gray and calm. Yet, Woods's problems started early. He landed on only one green in regulation through his first six holes and had two bogeys and a double-bogey through his first eight. On the 11th hole he hit a balloon slice that landed 30 yards off the fairway, one of several that followed that same flight pattern that day. Approach shots ended up on the wrong sides of greens. Putts never seemed to drop.

Friday included a double-bogey on 14 and a triple on 15. There was a gem on the 558-yard 13th hole Thursday: a 300-yard drive to the middle of the fairway and an approach shot that rolled to within inches of the hole for an easy eagle putt. Alas, another balloon slice into the trees came next. "It's not the first time I have been through this," Woods said. "It takes time. It's just frustrating where I need to get through competitive rounds. I need to get rounds out of my belt and get a feel for it." Granted, it isn't easy to get the feel for the game at the Bacchanalian festival known as the Waste Management Phoenix Open. While the PGA Tour has tried to tone down this event, it is still a boozy, rowdy scene. The galleries resemble supporter sections in European soccer stadiums. It's a multiethnic mosaic completely lacking in pretension. These folks know only that they have come to a sporting event, not some sanctified ground where standards of decorum more appropriate to the library might apply. Sports are supposed to be fun and loud, after all. Golf, here at least, isn't any different. The anything-goes sentiment flows freely at the TPC Scottsdale. No one feels like they're about to get escorted off the course for violating some obscure rule of etiquette. The fans weren't offering Woods any breaks. On the par-3, 16th hole -- a 360-degree stadium known as the loudest hole in golf, where players get introduced like boxers as they step up to the tee -- Woods had to step away from the ball twice Thursday. "Knock it in the dune!" one fan yelled on his first attempt. "Everybody quiet!" another screamed on his second. When he missed his birdie putt, the boos rained. "Welcome to Phoenix," a fan blurted out as Woods walked off the green, staring up at the crowd with a bemused grin. "I just need tournament rounds where I can fight, fight through it, turn it around, grind through it and make adjustments on the fly," he said. Even Woods's caddie kept telling him not to worry about his score. Tiger Woods not worry about his score? This sport is getting awfully weird.
