WILDCAT WEEKLY AUGUST 25, 2019

Volume 3, Issue 6

Dear Griffin Community,

Thank you once again to all parents, students, and staff for your support and time in facilitating a successful

6th grade Open House. Many thanks as well to our PTSA for sponsoring the 6th grade dance. Both events

were well-attended and enjoyed showing just how amazing our Griffin community is at supporting student

success. If you haven’t had the opportunity to join our PTSA, please do so, as they support so many extra-

curricular and classroom activities for our students.

Throughout the month of August, students have been completing the reading and math inventories. The RI/

MI provides an important baseline in both subjects for measuring student growth throughout the school year.

Please work in partnership with your student's teachers to help insure student learning and academic

achievement in these areas.

Our Griffin Reads and Writes 30 (GR30/GW30) independent reading and writing programs have begun,

along with Wellness Wednesdays. All three programs provide students with remarkable additional enrichment

that supports classroom learning. During GR30, students participate in sustained silent reading, with books

they choose, and utilize research-based strategies to increase vocabulary and comprehension. GW30 builds

essential writing and critical thinking skills as students complete writing prompts based on real-world topics.

And, our school counselors provide students with wellness activities that support study habits, social skills,

along with self-care. We appreciate the involvement and commitment of our students and staff in delivering

these whole child activities.

Coming up this week, we have an early release day on Wednesday, August 28th, and then mark your calen-

dars for several events taking place after the Labor Day holiday September 2nd. The music fundraiser kick-off,

fall student picture day, and several Magnet informational meetings are scheduled.

Have a great week, Wildcats!

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Georgia PTA cultural arts competition. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program.

The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. The excitement and enthusiasm that the program generates for students, parents, schools and communities is unmatched with the majority of Georgia PTAs participating in the program at all PTA levels.

Young artists get involved through their local PTA or PTSA. A student may submit an entry in any of six arts areas. Only original works of art are accepted. The six art areas are: Visual Arts Photography, Literature, Music Composition, Dance Choreography, and Film Production.

That's why the Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:

• Unleash their creative talents and be inspired

• Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork

• Experience the joy and fun of making art

• Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme

Receive positive recognition for their original works of art

All submissions are due by October 11th to Ms. Wong
