Film Language• 'Wild' is a song by the Australian singer Troye Sivan from his album

Blue Neighbour. There are two music videos for this song both feature the artist one features another artist that is on the song the other is part of the of a three video trilogy. • The video uses a lot of wide shots showing the sky because the colour

blue is highlighted in the video and they only use straight cuts because it makes it more like a film which is the effect they wanted. It opens with credit like a film and it finishes by cutting to black.

Genre characteristics • ‘Wild’ by Troye Sivan is a electropop and dream pop. • A key convention is the way they open it is a common thing for

electropop videos is that they open like films with credits and a shot of where the video is filmed.

• The narrative is also a key convention as most electropop videos have similar narratives mostly about being different and not having a traditional love story for example another electropop video that is like this is ‘colours’ by Halsey.

Mise-en-scene • The video is shot so that it highlights the colour blue this is because

the album is called ‘blue neighbourhood’ this also because blue can describe how your feeling and it is a sad feeling which is how the characters in the video feel.

• The video is also light pastel colours with a film like filter to make it fell more like a film then a music video.

• The costumes are blue or white the dad who could be called the bad guy is the only one who doesn’t wear a blue.

Links to the lyrics• They are showing a shot of the

boys climbing a tree and the song goes, “Trying hard not to fall.” This lyric can also be seen as a metaphor for there relationship as it could mean falling in love.

• “Leave this blue neighbourhood” This lyric is talking about them trying to escape it is shown throw them jumping in the ocean and all the blue in the shot.

Representation of artist • There are lots of close of shots of the artist while singing in he doesn’t

look at the camera while lip syncing. The artist is playing a character in the video while lip syncing. He stays in the same place while lip syncing but it straight cuts between him singing and the story that the video is telling.• There are no girls in the video so there is nothing to compare with.

Intertextual references• The plot of the video is not based on films or books that I could find but it is

similar to paper towns with the difference of the couple in paper towns being a straight couple and the one in the video being a gay couple. They both show them when there children and then they grow up to be in love.

• Here is an example of the film next to the video this shows how similar they are and they even have the same colours. The bikes are symbols of their youth .

Performance, narrative or concept based?• 'Wild' is a narrative based music video, the music video was made as part of a trilogy of music

videos telling the story of the artist and the boy he has a crush on. There are three videos each telling a different bit of the story.

• The video shows the dad as an acholic and it shows the beginning of the boys relationship.
