2. Document creation and voting are more important than a discussion

3. The influence of a participant depends only on her effectiveness and community support

Principles of collaborative document improvement

Page 7: WikiVote!iadis-2012 AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO COLLABORATIVE DOCUMENT IMPROVEMENT

7

Principles of collaborative document improvementDecomposition

• Small pieces of text are more likely to provoke constructive feedback

Our approach:• Decompose the document and work

with fragments

Page 8: WikiVote!iadis-2012 AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO COLLABORATIVE DOCUMENT IMPROVEMENT

8

Principles of collaborative document improvementCreate, edit and vote instead of discussing

• Comments are hard to automatically analyse, rank and use

• Comments are more likely to provoke only emotional outburst instead of useful result

Our approach:• Encourage users to create their own

versions of the fragments of the documents

• Allow users to vote for fragments• Discourage users to comment

Principles of collaborative document improvementInfluence management

Problems of simple voting systems:• Trey are vulnerable to a sock-

puppeting (Sybil attacks)• the voice of a smart minority isn’t

heard

Our approach:• Introduce the vote weight that is

dependent of the quality of participant’s contribution
