Harmonique prezentuje jedne z najlepszych dokonań Henry’ego Purcella: skomponowane

na pogrzeb monarchini Funeral sentences for the death of Queen Mary II oraz odę na cześć

św. Cecylii Welcome to all the pleasures. Zespół składa również hołd Jeremiah Clarke’owi, który

z pewnością zasłużył na poczesne miejsce w historii muzyki brytyjskiej. Po przedwczesnej

śmierci Purcella Clarke poświęcił mu poruszający utwór Ode on the death of Henry Purcell

należący do najznamienitszych dzieł na chór i orkiestrę, jakie powstały na Wyspach. Niestety,

także życie Clarke’a zakończyło się zbyt wcześnie – nieszczęśliwa miłość doprowadziła

go do samobójstwa. Możemy sobie tylko wyobrażać, jak mogły potoczyć się losy muzyki

brytyjskiej, gdyby obu artystom dane było żyć dłużej. Zarazem czujemy wdzięczność,

że te wspaniałe partytury przetrwały do naszych czasów.

Retransmisja koncertu, który zabrzmiał podczas 15. Festiwalu Misteria Paschalia, otworzy

tegoroczną � wyjątkową, bo cyfrową � edycję festiwalu.

A musical depiction of an epoch: the restoration of the monarchy in England and the return of an age of splendour in music. Le Poème Harmonique present two of Henry Purcell’s finest scores, the Funeral sentences for the death of Queen Mary II and Welcome to all the pleasures; they also pay tribute to Jeremiah Clarke, who deserves a prominent position in the history of British music. When the former died prematurely, Clarke paid a moving tribute to him in his Ode on the death of Henry Purcell, surely one of the greatest English masterpieces for chorus and orchestra. Unfortunately, Clarke too died in his prime; he took his life on account of an unhappy love affair. We can only imagine the destiny of British music had such brilliant composers lived longer. At the same time, we must be grateful that these marvellous scores have survived.The broadcast of the concert performed during the 15th Misteria Paschalia Festival inaugurates the 2020 unique digital edition of the festival.
