Welcome to this presentation of activities on Bergen Kringkaster 1937-1978, 2009- !”SvennM”(SM)will be your host!

It’s good to have ARCers and SDXFers with us today in this Skype transmission from Sotra, Norway. This is the 20 kW Telefunken transmitter of Bergen Kringkaster that ran on 260 Khz LW and later 890 kHz MW 1937-1965. But already from 1925 Bergen had radio broadcasting!

!  Bergen-Nordnes, first AM site in Bergen late 1925, 1 KW but unknown frequency.

!  Bergen Kringkastingsselskap 1kW tx from 1926 on Telegraph building. ”Flat-top antenna”(with great skywave), several frequencies used until 1937: 750, 810, 820v, 850 and 722. 820 logged Chula Vista, California 1926.

!  Philips 10 kW tx used for LKB 890 kHz 1965-1978, now at LKA Vigra, where it was used as reserve on 630 kHz. Vigra blown up 2011 and Kvitsøy 2012.

LLE-4 Radio Northern Star 1611 khz monitored at Kalvøya, Smøla Island Norway 1735 UTC on March 2nd, 2018.

!  LLE-4 1611 kHz received on Panasonic(Toyota)car radio

LLE-4 1611 kHz received on Panasonic(Toyota)car radio

!  On our 1611 frequency we have been heard in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, England, Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

!  The listening record on 1611 is held by a listener in Belgorod, Russia, 2230 kms from our tx-QTH Grensedalen 59, Erdal, in Askøy Municipality, Northwest of Bergen, the capital of Western Norway.

!  The frequency of 1611.0 is now a Norwegian broadcasting frequency as the spectrum was formerly used by LGQ/LGB for its LGF(1609.5/1611.5) transmissions from Bore and later Vigrestad. As you may know, 1611.0 was also used by Vatican Radio. We hope unlicensed transmissions on this channel will move away, although we recognize the skills and talents of many such operators.

LLE-3 5895 kHz Radio Northern Star Inverted ”V” antenna shared with Bergen Kringkaster. The station is heard all over

Europe and in North America!

!  LLE-3 Radio Northern Star 5895 kHz is broadcasting from a converted Yaesu FT-950 100/25 watts, running at 50w(USB).

!  LLE-3 Radio Northern Star 5895 kHz monitored at Kalvøya, Smøla Island Norway 1732 UTC on March 2nd, 2018.

!  LLE-4 Radio Northern Star 1611 kHz monitored at KONG-50, Norway 2122 UTC on December 28th, 2015.

!  LLE-3 Radio Northern Star 5895 kHz monitored at KONG-500, Norway 1740 UTC on March 2nd, 2018.

!  LLE-3 5895 kHz received on Becker(Mercedes)car radio

!  On our 5895 frequency we have been heard in 24 countries on transmissions from both Sala, Sweden and at LKB LLE: New Zealand, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Egypt, England, Ireland, Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

!  LKBT 630 kHz tx ex LA1ASK/B 509 kHz

!  We have just completed a small power test on LKBT 630 kHz, with about 1 watt ERP and 20 metres top loaded aerial. The daytime contour on car radios was remarkable, over 20 kms. The modulation was finally much better than 1611 so we hope for an improved service on that frequency.
