THE WAY

WA

S WiRELESS

You’ve come to expect the best from Starkey. Our innovations in the areas of

feedback cancellation and noise reduction have consistently delivered where

it matters most to you and your patients, in terms of performance, comfort

and personalization.

So it shouldn’t surprise you to hear that we’ve done it again.

Our new Wi Series hearing aids with IRIS Technology live up to the promise of

wireless. They’re seamless…effortless…and truly wireless — the way wireless was

meant to be.

Introducing Wi Series with IRIS™ Technology

MEANT TO BE

32

Page 4: Wi Series Catalog

Wi Series wouldn’t be a Starkey product without our PureWave Feedback Eliminator. This leading technology ensures wide fitting ranges and a fast response to more complex feedback.

Wi Series features Advanced HydraShield®, Starkey’s proprietary moisture protection system that integrates nano-coating, unibody construction and smart component placement. The result is a hearing aid uniquely designed to have superior water resistance both inside and out.

InVision Directionality in Wi Series hearing aids is designed to better perform in highly complex environments with background noise.

Starkey was the first company to integrate real-ear measurement into a hearing aid. Live Real Ear Measurement provides a prescriptively appropriate fitting for every Wi Series product. Combined with the power of Inspire® fitting software, it lets you see the hearing aid output in your patient’s ear in real-ear SPL. Live Real Ear is the only solution integrated into a hearing aid for verifying the audibility of your hearing aid fitting.

Voice Indicators alert your patient to the status of their hearing aid, low battery, memory and telephone modes in their choice of male or female voices in a wide variety of languages.

Automatic Telephone Solutions (ATS) automatically detects telephone use and adjusts to the optimal acoustic frequency response for telephone listening.

Bring the benefits of telehealth to your practice with our On Demand options. Each one is designed to elevate your interaction with patients and provide a better way for you to deliver care.

T2 On Demand lets you make common, standard adjustments to patients’ hearing aids over the phone. This cutting-edge technology uses touch-tone response to let you unlock your patients’ hearing aids using a special code and adjust the hearing instruments remotely. It can save you time, provide greater patient convenience, and give you more control over their care.

Audiology On Demand™ provides immediate, real-time assistance during difficult fittings. As part of our Inspire software, this feature gives you on-call access to a hearing professional who can remotely operate your fitting computer, offer suggestions and guidance, and ensure a successful fitting.

Applications. As part of our On Demand offerings, Starkey offers several patient counseling, demonstration and fitting apps that work with the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

IRIS Technology leverages a unique ear-to-ear communication protocol. Binaural Spatial Mapping applies the combined speed and power of mul-tiple dual-core platforms to achieve parallel processing benefits. This new protocol queries, analyzes, and maps the acoustic space surrounding the patient, applying the appropriate signal processing strategy for directionality and noise management.

With Synchronized User Adjustments patients can use a single hearing instrument to adjust volume or memory for the pair — eliminating the need to manually change two instruments. Binaural Telephone Mode automatically places the phone-side hearing aid in Automatic Telephone Response or Telecoil mode while attenuating the off-side hearing aid.

Starkey’s innovative SurfLink Accessories enable Wi Series to deliver on the true promise of wireless — by eliminating the need for body-worn devices during programming and daily listening.

SurfLink Programmer gives you the ultimate speed and flexibility in direct-to-hearing aid wireless programming.

SurfLink Media allows patients to wirelessly connect to virtually any

media device with no pairing or body-worn device required.

SurfLink Remote provides patients with a way to adjust their hearing instruments discreetly and easily.

Voice iQ, Starkey’s noise reduction and speech preservation system, was designed to change the way people hear in noise by allowing the listener to focus on the sounds they want, and reduce the ones they don’t. Faster and smarter than previous systems, this advanced algorithm is intended to reduce noise between syllables of speech.

The power behind Wi Series’ performance is IRIS Technology, Starkey’s proprietary new wireless integrated circuit platform. Utilizing an Industrial Scientific Medical Band (ISM), IRIS Technology constantly monitors and scans the wearer’s environment, seamlessly — and wirelessly — connecting to the device closest in range, whether it’s your programming computer or your patient’s chosen media device.

Page 5: Wi Series Catalog

Our SurfLink Programmer, combined with IRIS Technology and Inspire

fitting software, gives you the ultimate speed and flexibility in direct-to-hearing

aid wireless programming. This powerful yet simple programmer:

• Connects easily to your fitting computer via standard USB connection.

• Automatically detects Wi Series hearing aids instantly, enabling you to connect with and program the patient you select.

• Features a range of at least 20 feet, allowing patients to move around the fitting room during counseling and demonstrations.

• Utilizes Adaptive Frequency Agility—allowing you to use several programmers in a single office.

• Requires no additional hardware for the patient.

• Is up to 4x faster than HiPro and twice as fast as NOAHLink and nEARcom.

SurfLink

Programmer

SurfLink Media provides patients with the first set-and-forget media streaming

solution. Simply plug a TV, radio or MP3 player into SurfLink Media and rich, stereo

sound is streamed directly to any Wi Series hearing aids in range without pairing or

body-worn relay devices. SurfLink Media:

• Wirelessly streams to Wi Series instruments when the patient walks into

range of their SurfLink Media device (or it can be programmed to engage

with the hearing aid via the memory button).

• Includes an adjustable range and volume control.

• Requires no pairing or body-worn devices.

• Utilizes Intelligent Media Mobility to seamlessly transition the wearer

from different devices as they move throughout their home.

• Eliminates audio delay and lip-sync issues* commonly found with other

wireless systems.

• Can be set for streaming audio only, or streaming audio plus microphone.

SurfLink

Media

Our SurfLink Remote is a solution for patients who prefer a remote control

to adjust their hearing aids. In addition to controlling memory and

volume adjustments, these handy remotes allow patients to mute their

hearing instruments, or go in and out of streaming mode if they desire.

Measurement Conditions and Recommendations

The data for Wi Series are obtained and performance is expressed according to ANSI S3.22 (2003), ANSI S3.7 (1995), ANSI C63.19 (2007), IEC 60118-7 (2005), IEC 60711 (1981), DIN 45605 (1989) and IEC 60118-0 (1983) with Amendment 1 (1994-01). The Starkey proprietary Real Time Analyzer and the Starkey Automated Design Verification Test System (SADVTS) comprise the basic test equipment. Data may be subject to change with product refinement.

Because of the adaptive signal processing capabilities of Wi Series hearing instruments, the hearing instrument must be set to test mode to compare the actual performance of the hearing instrument with these specifications. Wi Series hearing instruments may be set to test mode with Inspire® by reading the hearing aid and selecting the “Hearing Aid Test” screen from the menu on the left side of the Inspire window, then selecting the “Full on Gain” button.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Materials Texture of the ear: A soft ear will make insertion of an earmold more difficult. In this case, a rigid mold would be a better choice.

Possible allergies to material: There are a variety of materials that are less likely to cause an allergic reaction. These hypoallergenic materials can be either rigid or soft.

A softer material will tend to seal better than a rigid material. There are several materials available offering a range of softness.

Earmold Selections Available Materials

Digital SLS – Earmolds made by scanning and modeling in a virtual setting of stereolithography are known as Digital SLS. Digital SLS is a process technology that optimizes earmold fit for comfort and performance. It is available in a Lucite, clear form on the following selected styles: direct tube, shell, ¾ shell, half shell, canal, canal lock, and non-occluding type G.

Ultraflex – Ultraflex is a very soft, yet durable vinyl material. It gives a good acoustic seal for high gain hearing instruments. It is recommended for fitting severe losses, pediatric molds or for patients who cannot tolerate hard materials. Modification is not recommended.

Biopor – Biopor silicone works well for canal and half shell fittings and is very comfortable for both earmolds and earplugs. Available colors include Clear, Flesh, Red and Blue.

The RIC closed earmold is similar to the RIC open mold with the exception that the canal tip is closed. This allows for smaller venting to be drilled in the tip of canal for more occlusion or to gain more low frequencies. This is not a solid canal piece.
