SUNDAY MAY 10 2015 INSIDER 135 V1 - TELE01Z01MA T he impossibly chic heiress belongs to the beauty industry’s most celebrated clan, so it’s not surprising Mother’s Day means a lot to Aerin Lauder, proud mum of teenagers Will and Jack, and grand-daughter of legendary Estée Lauder. “It’s a big holiday for us,” she says. “We have dinner together, with my mother and mother-in-law.” The family has much to celebrate; Estée Lauder Companies is in growth mode, having acquired several new cult brands, and signed up the influential Kendall Jenner as a face of Estée Lauder. And then there’s Aerin Beauty, Lauder’s brainchild, which combines her love of fragrance, beauty and home. Lauder’s earliest memories are fused with perfume; one sniff of Estée Lauder Beautiful takes her back to precious times spent with her famous grandmother. Lauder fondly recalls watching the woman whom she always called Estée, at her vanity table, picking up some great skincare tips from an early age. “Estée used to say, ‘You have one face, take care of it’. She believed in the importance of skincare, sleep and drinking lots of water.” Estée also taught her granddaughter the importance of organisation. “She used to arrange her table so well; one drawer would be lipstick, another eyeshadow … it was so ordered and amazing to see.” Celebrated for the same strong work ethic as her grandmother, Lauder also credits her mother for instilling a sense of purpose. “She would always read to me,” says Lauder. “Usually The Giving Tree, which is a great book about passion and perseverance.” Growing up in a tight-knit circle has surely inspired Lauder to celebrate the sanctity of family life. Like many working mothers, she packs her children off for school every morning and oversees homework at night. “I come home from work and switch gears to become the mother of two boys,” she says. Lauder hopes that her sons’ earliest memories of her will be lots of hugs. “Boys are so cuddly,” she says, with a smile. Working in a woman’s world, she has been careful not to style her home, which she also shares with husband Eric Zinterhofer, in too feminine a manner. “Boys like basketball hoops and piles of things,” she laughs. “I’d love white carpet but it doesn’t exist when you live with boys and three dogs.” Her homewares designs are often inspired by the idea that home should be conducive to family life: think children’s artwork, framed family photographs and comfortable furniture. As for that next generation, the beauty baton is not quite ready to be passed on. “I wish,”says Lauder laughing, when asked if her boys have a grooming routine of their own. “American teenage boys love Old Spice!” LINDY KLIM Founder of Milk & Co Baby and Milk by Lindy Klim THIS Mother’s Day, Lindy Klim, mum to Stella, Rocco and Frankie, is sharing the spotlight with her son. “It’s Rocco’s seventh birthday so we’re off to Bounce (trampoline centre) in Bali, with 10 energetic boys,” she says. The impossibly chic heiress belongs to thebeauty industry’s mostcelebrated clan, so it’snot surprising Mother’s

Day means a lot to Aerin Lauder, proud mum of teenagers Will and Jack, and grand-daughter of legendary Estée Lauder.

“It’s a big holiday for us,” she says. “We have dinner together, with my mother and mother-in-law.”

The family has much to celebrate; Estée Lauder Companies is in growth mode, having acquired several new cult brands, and signed up the influential Kendall Jenner as a face of Estée Lauder.

And then there’s Aerin Beauty, Lauder’s brainchild, which combines her love of fragrance, beauty and home.

Lauder’s earliest memoriesare fused with perfume; one sniff of Estée Lauder Beautiful takes her back to precious times spent with her famous grandmother.

Lauder fondly recalls watching the woman whom she always called Estée, at her vanity table, picking up some

great skincare tips from an early age.

“Estée used to say, ‘You have one face, take care of it’. She believed in the importance of skincare, sleep and drinking lots of water.”

Estée also taught her granddaughter the importance of organisation.
