WHY LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS FAIL CONTEXT: Most leadership programs adopt a one size fits all approach which essentially means that the rationale for conducting such a program is not clearly defined REFLECTION: Most programs don’t provide participants with the time to reflect and give them real work experiences to apply new approaches and hone their skills MINDSETS: Failure to address below the surface thoughts, feelings, assumptions and not teaching leaders how to control left impulses leads to only partial development RESULTS: Most programs set intangible developmental targets but this essentially means that the effectiveness of these initiatives is left open to interpretation COURAGE: Most programs don’t make leaders experience discomfort. Rather than letting them experience emotional courage they only address it through case studies INTEGRATION: Most programs occur at offsite location, but in order to derive true value, programs should be immersive and fully integrated to the leader’s day to day work life Like our work?
