Voice tagged with the Expedite Forward DSCP tag is placed in the router’s priority queue to consume up to 90% of port. The Provider edge router uses the same policy on the reverse path. This guarantees traffic, thereby preserving voice quality.

Optionally, one or more intermediate traffic classes can be queued with priority below voice but above best effort data.

Best Effort is handled at the lowest level, however 10% of the total bandwidth is reserved to prevent data “starvation.”
