Why I volunteer…I volunteer to give back. And more important, volunteering for our transplant community is an act of serving something bigger than myself. Perhaps I can save a life along the way.

-WILL OLER, HEART AND LIVER RECIPIENT

I volunteer because organ donation matters. Because I received the gift of life. To honor my organ donor and his/her family. Because we are the best example that organ donation works.

-LUIS CARBONELL, HEART RECIPIENT

When I tell someone “Hey you’re not a doctor, a nurse, or a scientist — and just think, you have the potential to save up to 8 lives and enhance the lives of over 50 people,” I can see a light in their eyes. It makes my heart skip a beat and I can’t take a smile off my face when someone says “yes” to organ donation. It’s my LEGACY. Paying It Forward is what I was born to do, and I will until my last breath.

-EVELYN COLON-LEGON, LIVER RECIPIENT

“I am the proud mother of an organ donor. My son saved lives and I am honored to volunteer in his memory. I hope to encourage people to register for volunteer work and to donate life. Volunteering can be both rewarding and life-changing.”

How can you help? Department of Driver ServicesTogether with LifeLink Public Affairs staff, reinforce the importance of saying YES to organ and tissue donation when getting or renewing your driver license or state identification card, and help thank driver license staff for their commitment to facilitating donor registration.

Professional EducationShare your story and together with LifeLink Hospital Development staff through speaking opportunities or one-on-one visits. This education benefits nurses, physicians and administrators by showing them positive, real life outcomes of organ and tissue donation, as well as allowing them to meet donor family members after donation has occurred and understand how donation impacted their grieving process.

In-Office OpportunitiesLifeLink volunteers help with administrative tasks like assembling public and professional education materials for distribution, mailings, making copies, research to increase public education opportunities, phone calls and more.

Why help? Some people are comfortable in the spotlight, while others prefer to help behind the scenes. Volunteer opportunities are available for everyone, whether you want to share your time on stage, behind a table at a health fair or in the office.

Community Health Fairs and EventsHealth fairs and events allow volunteers to share their story one on one with attendees, usually while staffing a LifeLink booth. Volunteers are stocked with educational materials about organ and tissue donation to share with individuals who stop by.

Public SpeakingSpeak at civic group, church, school, workplace partner or professional education meetings or events, telling their story and explaining how individuals can designate their donation wishes by joining their state organ and tissue donor registry.

MediaParticipate with LifeLink staff in media interviews for television, print, web or radio to discuss your story and organ and tissue donation.
