AP Maths is an IEB extra subject and not an extra class in school mathematics. The aim of the subject is to stimulate and enrich a learner, who is already performing well in Mathematics, by augmenting the school syllabus. AP Maths challenges you to learn mathematical concepts and theory ahead of your time. Why do universities recommend “additional mathematics”? Mathematics Higher Grade was examined in 2007 for the last time. Many students testify that CAPS Mathematics did not adequately prepare them for first year mathematics at university. Although they obtained 80% or more at school, they struggle to adjust at university, especially in the first six months. Enrichment in addition to the state curriculum is highly recommended for fields like Engineering, B.Sc., B.Comm. and Actuarial Science. The IEB’s AP Maths ideally bridges the gap between matric and university. First years are lost if they have not already been exposed at school to topics like Absolute Values and more advanced Limits. The contact sessions (Gold package) occur once per week in term time and are 1½ hours in duration. On the Silver package learners attend the weekly, live webinar. Study material and assessment AdMaths’ AP Maths study material has been in development since 2005 and is widely regarded as the best of its kind in South Africa. It is made available electronically on the learner’s profile and the textbook version may be purchased by monthly paying clients at www.admathsretail.co.za. Learners write a test in the first and third term and an examination in the second and fourth term at the nearest examination venue on a pre-determined day. You may apply to write a home exam. Informal assessment (“tutorials”) must also be submitted. IEB AP Maths certificate vs Cambridge “A-levels” Interested Grade 12s are registered by us for the IEB’s AP Maths final exam, which occurs in October before the commencement of the Senior Certificate examination. The cost in 2022 is R1200. The brochures of many South African universities give mentioning to “additional mathematics” as highly recommended for mathematical fields of study. An AP Maths certificate improves the chances of university admission as it gives testament to an aspiring student’s independence, selforganisation and problem solving skills. AP Maths has been benchmarked by NARIC UK and is regarded as equivalent to Cambridge Mathematics “A-levels”. AP Maths is therefore recognised by universities overseas. AdMaths also has its own Grade 12 final examination, the AdMaths Internal Examination (AIE), which is hosted by certain schools. To prepare for this examination a learner has to study a few non-AP Maths topics (like Binomial Theorem, Arcsin and De Moivre). The cost in 2022 is R370 and we issue our own certificate.

Does AP Maths interfere with school maths?
AdMaths helps learners with their school maths. It makes them sharper and they grasp concepts quicker and easier. This contributes to improved achievement in Mathematics. AP Maths places school mathematics in perspective and widens horizons. It also offers more stimulation to a learner who is bored with school maths. AP Maths is an extension of CAPS Mathematics and tailor-made for South Africa. The topics are Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Modelling, Matrices and Graph Theory. A learner who claims that AP Maths confuses him/her is possibly in the first place not a suitable candidate for AP Maths. When does the Grade 9-11 2022 programme start?

The year fee on (e.g.) the Gold package (in-person classes; hard textbook copies excluded) is R6000, which is the sum of 12 payments of R500 each from 1 January to 1 December. Do you sign a contract with AdMaths?
Yes, you will receive an email from [email protected]. You may cancel the contract by submitting a month’s notice at [email protected]. You may migrate between packages. (Gold) Please note that for a class to exist a certain number of learners must have enrolled. What happens at the end of a year?
There is an administrative fee of R150 payable to extend the contract for another year. (Only Grade 10s of 2022) AP Physics
We phase in the writing of the AP Physics exam from the 2024 matric year. Topics include the application of Calculus and Vectors in Mechanics, Electrical Circuits and Fields, Magnetism and Electromechanics. The Grade 10 course starts in the third term of 2022. It will be presented online (only in English) through 14 live 1-hour webinars. Assessment will comprise two tutorials, a formal test, an exam as well as online tests. The IEB’s advanced programmes are intellectual investments of which the benefits are more than merely the gaining of contents which provide a head-start at university.
