Name of Artifact: Personal Statement PowerPoint Project
Date: September 28, 2012
Course: EDUC 101
Brief Description: For this assignment, I began thinking about my personal philosophy of education. I started to identify my core beliefs as I start my journey towards becoming an exceptional educator. I used my textbooks, class discussions, notes, service learning experiences and personal experiences to create this power point presentation.
Rationale: To document my understanding of Standard #8, Instructional Strategies, I selected to include my Personal Statement PowerPoint Project because this assignment demonstrates by ability to use a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop a deep understanding of content areas and their connections and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Where I’m FromI am from 47 empty wine bottles underneath my mother’s bed
From roach clips and coke lines on my father’s deskI am from telling my siblings “Hide and don’t come out no matter how hard she hits me”
And “If you tell anyone I’ll beat your sister within an inch of her life”I am from neglected sunflowers withering in the summer heat
Whose drooping heads resembled my own spiritI am from Little Women and an old boom box with one station
From Dorothy and RoseI am from prayer warriors and homemade clothingAnd from lying about his age to serve his country
From helping family no matter the costI am from “The truth will set you free” even while it tears my family apart
I am from a Cherokee princess and an Irish nobleFrom sweet potato casserole and sugar cream pieFrom trying to forgive my recently sober mother
And from determined not to put my children through any of what I went throughLoving them, my whole family and God with all my heart and soul
I am from neglected sunflowers withering in the wind
who just needed someone to love them.
Adopt the pace
of nature.Her secret is
patience.
