Wholesome Reading & Bible-Based Education
Over the last 13 years Mt. Zion Literature has distributed hundreds of thousands of Chris-tian books in 15 countries of Central and
South America through 15 or more distributors. Their mission is to purchase books (mostly in Spanish) from publishers such as Christian Light, Rod & Staff, Chris-tian Aid Ministries, and Lamp & Light; subsidize them through donations; and distribute them throughout Latin America at prices the common people can afford. Chris-tian Light is happy to be a part of this work. We have sold or donated around 50,000 books to MZL in the past six years. The Lord has made this possible through the dona-tions and assistance of you, our faithful supporters.
Every two years MZL invites all of their distributors and supporting publishers to a two-day meeting of warm fellowship, inspirational talks, reports, informal inter-change between distributors and publishers, and question-and-answer periods. The meetings this year were held in January at Pedernales, Mexico, and Dale Hochstedler and John Hartzler attended from Christian Light.
On average, in the US each copy of a book is read by four people. In Latin America the rate is ten people, and in Cuba it’s twenty. Cuba has a literacy rate of about 97%, but there are very few books on the island, so everyone is eager to read. When the government began allowing some religious books to enter the country about seven years ago, MZL began shipping large quantities in ocean freight containers. Thirteen containers have been shipped to date, taking over 700,000 books. We marvel at how God opened the doors of a communist country to the Gospel message. One official asked, “Who is Mt. Zion Literature?” The reply was, “Have you heard of Putting Off Anger?” The official said, “Oh, yes! When my wife read it, she quit getting angry at me.” When the government gave the Council of Churches permission to have classes in jails, Putting Off Anger was chosen for the studies.
God has told us that in the latter days evil men will become worse and worse, and we see it all around us. But in the midst of abounding wickedness, many avenues for the Gospel message are opening. Let us use every opportunity to take and send the message to those who need to hear.
