Simplicity

Myriad benefits of the genius and simplicity

of TRM’s patented design:

• Makes it possible to assemble the pipe using untrained in-house

personnel; no special equipment required through any section of the

installation process

• No special assembly equipment is required; no special training or

certification is required; minimum welding is required to assemble/install

the pipe system

• Requires less insertion force (38%), resulting in faster assembly

Page 12: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Myriad benefits of the genius and

simplicity of TRM’s patented design:

• The strength of the lock restraint joint eliminates the need for thrust

block support on all fittings for all pipe sizes through DN400 (16”),

and working pressures up to 100 bars (1450 psig)

• With angular deflection and the soft K gasket, pipe alignment is less

critical during assembly, resulting in faster installation; especially

important when installing on steep terrain

• The soft flexible K gasket provides angular deflection at each joint,

requiring less fittings; angular deflection at each joint is 5ᵒ, and can

be rotated 360ᵒ to cope with unexpected field conditions. Fewer

fittings reduces the installation time required

Page 13: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Myriad benefits of the genius and

simplicity of TRM’s patented design:

• For DN250 10-inch diameter pipe, assembling two sections of pipe

together takes only 2.5 minutes

• For a DN500 20-inch diameter pipe, assembling two sections of pipe

together takes only 7.25 minutes

Relocation Possibilities• The unique joint design of the VRS®-T system combined with the

pipe’s longevity makes it very easy to disassemble/relocate DI piping,

to deal with any future changes in field conditions or changes in

system requirements. Bristol Mountain and Steamboat have

relocated pipe on several occasions.

The myriad benefits of longevity:

Lifespan

• At the same corrosivity, Standard DI pipe corrodes at 0.8 mil/year,

and Standard API 5L steel pipe corrodes at 3.0 mils/year.

• Ductile iron piping from TRM has a lifespan 3 to 4 times that of steel

(If the longevity is 35 years for steel, it would be over120 years for

ductile iron.)

• This makes DI pipe systems a much better choice where piping goes

through high traffic areas; through base areas; for any primary pipe

systems that should not fail frequently; and in any hard to access off

mountain areas.

Page 19: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

The myriad benefits of longevity:Corrosion Methodology has a major influence on the rate of

corrosion for any material, and this Methodology is very different for

steel and Ductile Iron.

• For Ductile Iron: The corrosion mechanism is a single stage

uniform oxidation process, which forms and deposits an oxide layer

on the pipe. This is a single stage gradually diminishing process,

which decreases as the oxide layer increases.

• For Steel: The corrosion mechanism is a continuous repetitive

process, in which a loose scale of oxides, sulfates and nitrates form

and deposit on the surface of the pipe. The layers of loose scale

drop off periodically, and are replaced continuously, by new layers of

loose scale, as the corrosion cycles continue.

Page 20: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

The myriad benefits of longevity:Interior corrosion, pitting, scaling minimized, means

better water quality + trouble-free operation

• All VRS®-T pipe is lined with a special high alumina cement, which

minimizes any type of corrosion on any interior surfaces. With steel

pipe systems, all interior surfaces will corrode.

• Cement lining eliminates the formation of rust and loose scale,

improving the quality of water discharging from the system, providing

a higher level of environmental protection. Water quality also is

becoming more important, especially with the High Efficiency

snowmaking equipment, becoming the preferred option in

snowmaking system operations. The use of DI pipe reduces these

problems significantly.

Strength

Page 23: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Good under pressure

• Because of the metallurgical structure of the lateral strength of

VRS®-T pipe is superior to any alternative pipe system.

• Also, because of the broad selection of wall thicknesses available,

and the unique design of the VRS®-T lock restraint joint, DI pipe

from TRM can operate at higher pressures, up to 100 bars (1450

psig).

ZMU-Austria

cement mortar coated pipingReady for extreme conditions

• Now available from PNP Supply, offering generational longevity and

unbeatable advantages including extreme sulfate resistance, superior

strength and high impact protection. This innovative piping can be

covered with existing fill and is perfect for installation in rocky and

inaccessible terrain, aggressive and contaminated soils, under roads

and river crossings and in trenchless applications.

• ZMU-Austria provides a cement pipeline that can be operated at 100

bar (1450 psig).

Page 25: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC
Page 26: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

ZMU is preferable where…• pipes pass through base areas and/or under parking lots

• pipes are installed along local roads, access roads and local service

roads that are salted throughout the winter, increasing the corrosivity

of the soil adjacent to these roads

• pipes have to be installed in areas where summer maintenance

construction is not desired

• pipes have to be installed through regions that have soils with

extremely high levels of corrosivity and/or toxicity

• pipes are installed in rocky terrain since the strength of this cement-

fiber coating allows the excavated soil to be used as backfill (no

external bedding or backfill will be required)

• During a 12-day freeze

test, in temperatures as

low as -9.5˚C (15˚F),

TRM’s ductile iron pipe

showed no signs of

damage to the cement

lining, the gasket or the

exterior of the pipe due

to the unique

characteristics of all

components that make

up the VRS-T pipe

system.

• Steel pipe undoubtably would have split in

this time frame. Using ductile iron pipe

buys you valuable time to thaw the frozen

section of pipe and get it back in service.

• Yield point and tensile strength are 25%

higher than steel.

• Due to ductile iron thermodynamic

properties, ductile iron pipe will not freeze

as quickly as steel pipe.

Sustainability

Page 30: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC
Page 31: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Sustainability presumes that resources are finite

and should be used conservatively and wisely

with a view to the long-term priorities as well as

consequences of the ways in which resources are

used.

Page 32: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Sustainable practices support ecological, human,

and economic health and vitality.

Sustainable development is development that

meets the needs of the present without

compromising the ability of future generations to

meet their own needs.

Page 33: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

TRM ductile iron pipe from TRM Austria is

manufactured using 96% scrap iron: and is 98%

recyclable. The pipe has a service life in excess of

100 years, and at the end of its service life, the

piping can be recycled and made into new cast

products.

Page 34: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

True Sustainability• lasts 3 to 4 times longer than steel pipe

• made from recycled raw materials

The TRM factory • recycles waste heat

• purifies wastewater

• mitigates sound pollution

• filters and cleans its exhaust air

• maintains the largest solar array in

Austria to power the manufacturing

operations of the factory (the excess

power then flows into the nearby grid)

• Uses sustainable transportation

options

Page 35: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Because of its life expectancy, VRS®T Pipe is the

most environmentally sustainable piping choice

you can make for your project.

Superior Hydraulics

Fluid hydraulics for any pipe system are defined by the Friction

Constant (C valve) for that pipe system. Consider:

• For DI pipe the C value for design purposes = 140.

• For welded steel pipe the C value for design purposes = 100.

• The lower C value for steel pipe is caused by rust and scale

buildup in the pipe.

• The initial reaction: Friction loss for steel should be lower

because the C value is lower. This is INCORRECT because

the C value is in the denominator of the equation.

• The LOWER the C value for any material, the HIGHER the

friction loss.

Information above is not supplied by PNP,

it has been taken from Fluid Hydraulics textbooks.

Page 39: Who We Are and What We Do. - PNP Supply LLC

Cost Considerations

• Ductile iron piping materials are more expensive than steel pipe. The

initial capital investment is higher.

• Material costs are only one part of the total equation which defines

the total installed cost of the system.

• Ductile Iron pipe systems from TRM are financially and technically

superior to any other alternative.

• Given everything we just covered, the total cost of installation is

less and the benefits of DI pipe easily outweigh the higher cost

of the materials.
