Brief History of Denominations

• The Great Schism began in 5th Century AD & finalized in 1054 AD – RC & Greek Orthodox

Different Lutherans

• Biggest issue that plagued & divided American Lutherans in 20th Century was/IS issue ofLutherans in 20 Century was/IS issue of theological liberalism & biblical inerrancy

• Theological Liberalism – view Bible as inspired by God but historically conditioned and imperfect…

• Evangelical Lutheran Church of America holds this theological position

Different Lutherans

• On the other side of the issue…Lutheran Church Missouri Synod & WisconsinChurch Missouri Synod & Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

• View Bible as incapable of error (infallible) and free from error (inerrant), because very words & h f S i t i i d ( d& phrases of Scripture were inspired (and GIVEN) by God the Holy Spirit.  Consequently, the Word of God does not lie.
