Who Are We?
Parents: We are parents of children receiving special education services. Learning from each other and together effectively collaborating to advocate for our children.
Teachers: We are North Kingstown general and special education teachers dedicated to building trusting collaborative relationships with families, administrators and community members.
Special Education Administrators: We are the Director and Assistant Director of Special Education in North Kingstown. We share updates and information on initiatives that take place in our district.
School Committee Members: We are your elected School Committee members working to build a network where we can provide parents, taxpayers, teachers, school personnel, and citizens a forum to voice their opinion and provide suggestions.

The North Kingstown Special Education Local Advisory Committee (SELAC) are parents, teachers, students, support staff, and other members of the community involved in, or concerned with, the education of students with disabilities and special needs in North Kingstown.
As an advocacy group, we are committed to creating a strong bridge between general and special education by promoting school-family partnership through increasing awareness, and encouraging involvement. We advise and make recommendations to ensure that all students receive a quality education.

A parent is the most important teacher
in a child’s life.
What do we do?
We inform parents about special education issues and encourage
their support
We disseminate information on state and federal education
issues
We sponsor a variety of training courses in conjunction with
several agencies
We provide a forum for parent information, resources and
support.
We report to the School Committee and attend their
meetings
We act as a local resource for families with concerns about their
child's educational needs.
SELAC is a state-mandated committee comprised of individuals concerned with the education of children with disabilities. It serves as a formal advocacy group for students with special needs. Parents comprise the majority of the membership, and also include teachers, special educators and support staff, school administrators, community members and individuals with disabilities.
