NBA Inc. Registered Members Code of Conduct

The NBA Inc. Registered Members Code of Conduct has been developed for all registered members participating in competitions run by the NBA as well as all registered members representing the NBA in Representative games.

A Registered member’s public behaviour will be closely observed by others as he/she represents his/her Club, Association or State in organized competition. Any behaviour that is unlawful or disrespectful to others is an insult and indictment of everyone associated with the team.

If, on report of an umpire, team or association official, there is a serious breach of the NBA Inc. Registered Members Code of Conduct, the registered member will be cited to appear before the NBA Judiciary Committee and shall be dealt with in the manner prescribed by the NBA Disputes Procedure.

It shall be the duty of each Club to ensure all their registered members have read signed and aware of the NBA Inc. Registered Members Code of Conduct and the procedures and consequences of breaching the Code. The observance of the NBA Inc. Registered Members Code of Conduct shall be considered a condition of membership to the NBA.

1. All registered members shall at all times compete by the competition conditions and rules and in the spirit and intent contained therein.

2. Registered members will not criticise or abuse umpires, opposing registered members or spectators either verbally or by gesture or manner.

3. Registered members will show respect for their opponents and their skills. 4. The use of drugs of any kind is totally banned unless prescribed by a licensed physician. 5. No registered member shall use indecent or profane language whilst in uniform at a venue used for the

game of baseball. “Uniform” shall include the wearing or display of the Club or Association colours, badges, jackets, etc which implies an affiliation with the NBA or NSW Country Baseball or any Club under the control of the NBA.

6. The use of chewing tobacco is forbidden whilst in playing uniform. 7. Registered players shall not engage in any activity which is likely to result in loss or wilful damage to property

or cause injury to any person. 8. Registered members shall not abuse equipment or place other registered members, umpires or spectators at

risk of injury by throwing bats or helmets etc. 9. Registered members shall not eat or drink on the field of play. The consumption of food and drink will be

allowed in the dugout. 10. Smoking is not permitted on the field or in the dugout. 11. Consumption of alcohol by players while participating in a game is prohibited. 12. Any registered player who, in the opinion of an umpire, is under the influence of alcohol will not be allowed

to participate in a game controlled by the NBA.

Coaches

• Place the safety and welfare of the athletes above all else.

• Help each person (athlete, official, etc.) to reach their potential. Respect the talent, developmental stage and goals of each person and encourage them with positive and constructive feedback.

• Focus on your child's effort and performance, rather than winning or losing.

• Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition.

• Help out the coach or officials at training and games, where possible.

• Model appropriate behavior, including respect for other players and officials.

SMOKE FREE POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2017 Version - Page 1 of 1 ~

Rationale

White Sox Baseball Club recognises that:

• Environmental (second-hand) tobacco smoke is a health hazard and that non-smokers should be protected from it.

• Role modelling can have a significant impact upon the junior members of the club. • Smoke free areas make smoking less visible and less socially acceptable. • Smoke free areas support smokers who are trying to quit as well as reduce their overall

cigarette consumption. • Outdoor smoke free areas help to reduce the amount of cigarette butt litter (reducing

clean-up costs, fire risk and children’s health risk due to swallowing discarded butts). • Smoke free environments are advantageous in attracting new members as well as

positively promoting the club in the community.

NSW legislation (Smoke-free Environment Act 2000) also bans smoking in spectator areas for the duration of the sporting activity at public sports grounds, local council playing fields, and major sporting facilities.

General

• Cigarettes and other tobacco products will not be sold, including from vending machines, at any time by the club.

• Coaches, players, officials and volunteers will refrain from smoking while involved in an official capacity for the club, on and off the field.

• No images of club volunteers, members, officials, coaches and players smoking at club-related activities are to be placed on social media.

• All Newcastle City Council sportsgrounds are smoke free areas at all times.

Functions

• Club functions, including social and fundraising events and meetings, held at club facilities are to be smoke free.

• Club functions, including social and fundraising events and meetings, held away from club facilities are to be smoke free wherever possible.

• If provided, smokers may only smoke at outdoor designated smoking areas and are to dispose of cigarette butts safely before entering facilities.

Non-compliance

All club committee members will enforce the smoke free policy and any non-compliance will be handled according to the following process:

• Explanation of the club policy and the NSW\NCC tobacco laws to the person/people concerned, including identification of the areas in which smoking is permitted

• Continued non-compliance with the policy should be handled by at least two committee members who will use their discretion as to the action taken, which may include asking the person/ people to leave the club facilities or function.

ALCOHOL MANAGEMENT POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2017 Version - Page 1 of 2 ~

Rationale

This policy provides the basis for a balanced and responsible approach to the use of alcohol at White Sox Baseball Club events and activities. This policy will help to ensure the club:

• Meets its duty of care in relation to the health and safety of our members and others who attend our club functions.

• Upholds the reputation of the club, sponsors, partners and Good Sports. • Understand the risks associated with alcohol misuse and our role in minimising this risk.

While White Sox Baseball Club does not sell alcohol, we acknowledge that alcohol may be consumed at club related events and activities including meetings, after training or matches, end of season/presentation functions, sponsors’ functions, trivia nights and other fundraising events. In particular, the club holds many of its functions at licensed venues.

Accordingly, the following requirements will apply to all players, coaches, officials, members, committee members, club visitors, club facilities, club functions and other activities undertaken by the club where alcohol is consumed.

General Principles

• A risk management approach will be taken in planning events/activities involving the supply or consumption of alcohol. Such events will be conducted and managed in a manner consistent with liquor licensing legislation and this policy.

• A liquor license will be required at any event where alcohol is to be sold. • Alcohol misuse can lead to unsafe or unacceptable behaviour, drink-driving and other

alcohol related harm. Excessive consumption of alcohol will not be an excuse to unacceptable behaviour, particularly behaviour that endangers others or breaches the law, this policy or any other policy of the club.

Committee Members, Members, Players and Officials

• Must not compete, train, coach or officiate if affected by alcohol. • Must not provide, encourage or allow people aged under 18 to consume alcohol. • Must not participate in or encourage excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol

(including drinking competitions). • Must not pressure anyone to drink alcoholic beverages. • Must accept responsibility for own behaviour and take a responsible approach and use

good judgment when alcohol is available.

Functions

The club will not:

• Conduct functions where the caterer/venue requires a minimum amount of liquor sales or the liquor provider is paid by a percentage of sales

• Conduct ‘all you can drink’ functions • Provide alcohol-only drink vouchers for functions

ALCOHOL MANAGEMENT POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2017 Version - Page 2 of 2 ~

Advertisements for functions will:

• Not overemphasise the availability of alcohol or refer to the amount of alcohol available • Not encourage rapid drinking or excessive drinking • Give equal reference to the availability of non-alcoholic drinks • Display a clear start and finish time for the function.

Safe Transport

The club recognises that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and hazardous to individuals and the wider community. Accordingly, the club implements a Safe Transport Policy that is reviewed regularly in conjunction with this Alcohol Management Policy. We ask that all attendees at our functions plan their transport requirements to ensure they arrive home safely and prevent driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Non Compliance

All club committee members will enforce the alcohol management policy and any non-compliance will be handled according to the following process:

• Explanation of the policy to the person/people concerned, including identification of the section of policy not being complied with

• Continued non-compliance with the policy should be handled by at least two committee members who will use their discretion as to the action taken, which may include asking the person/ people to leave the facilities or function.

Committee Policy Management

The presence of committee members is essential to ensure compliance with this policy. At least one member who is RSA trained is required to be present at all club functions when alcohol is being served. Key responsibilities of the duty committee member is to:

• Meet visiting police, cooperate and assist with any inquiries • Ensure compliance in respect of persons under 18 years of age on premises • Ensure compliance with all sections of this policy in accordance with legal requirements

and the Good Sports program.

SAFE TRANSPORT POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2017 Version - Page 1 of 1 ~

Rationale

White Sox Baseball Club recognises that:

• It has a duty of care to all members and guests involved in club-related activities • Mixing drugs (including prescription medication) with other drugs or alcohol can

seriously affect the ability to drive safely • Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs is illegal and hazardous to individuals

and the wider community • Drink driving is one of the main causes of road deaths in Australia • It takes one hour for each standard drink of alcohol consumed to be broken down by

the liver • It takes considerable time until a person can legally and safely drive home if they have

consumed over the recommended levels of alcohol.

What we will do

Actively apply this policy for club activities undertaken by White Sox Baseball Club that involve the serving and/or consumption of alcohol

What we ask you to do

When attending club activities and partaking in the consumption of alcohol, we expect our members to:

• Make alternative transport arrangements to get to and from the activity safely. • Plan ahead and arrange overnight accommodation. • Share a taxi (where available) with friends. • Catch public transport (where available). • Ride with a driver who hasn’t been drinking alcohol or taking drugs.

COMMUNICATION POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2015 Version - Page 1 of 2 ~ www.playbytherules.net.au

Our commitment

Electronic communication is essential for sharing club news and information with our members. Our communication will be timely, appropriate and related to club business.

What we will do

We use a range of electronic tools to communicate with our members.

Our communication will protect members’ privacy, maintain clear boundaries and ensure that bullying and harassment does not occur.

A webmaster will be appointed to provide accountability and control over material published on our club’s website and any related discussion groups or social media websites, such as Facebook, YouTube or Twitter.

Website

• Our website will include current information on competitions, social events, committees, policies, constitution, rules and by-laws.

• No offensive content or photos will be published.

• If we intend to publish a photo of a child, we will first seek permission from his or her parents and take care not to provide identifying information.

• We will seek feedback from members to improve the information available on the site.

SMS and email Committee members, coaches and team managers may use SMS and email to provide information about competition, training, club-sanctioned social events and other club business, however:

• SMS messages should be short and about club/team matters

• Email communication will be used when more information is required

• Communication involving children will be directed through their parents.

Social media websites

• We treat all social media postings, blogs, status updates and tweets as public ‘comment’.

• Postings (written, photos or videos) will be family-friendly and feature positive club news and events.

• No personal information about our members will be disclosed.

• No statements will be made that are misleading, false or likely to injure a person’s reputation.

• No statements will be made that might bring our club into disrepute.

COMMUNICATION POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2015 Version - Page 2 of 2 ~ www.playbytherules.net.au

• Abusive, discriminatory, intimidating or offensive statements will not be tolerated. Offending posts will be removed and those responsible will be blocked from the site.

What we ask you to do

We expect our members to conduct themselves appropriately when using electronic communication to share information with other members or posting material on public websites connected to the club.

Electronic communication:

• Should be restricted to club matters

• Must not offend, intimidate, humiliate or bully another person

• Must not be misleading, false or injure the reputation of another person

• Should respect and maintain the privacy of members

• Must not bring the club into disrepute.

Coaches and others who work with children and young people must direct electronic communication through the child’s parents.

Non-compliance

Members may face disciplinary action for sending inappropriate electronic communication or posting online content or comments that harass, offend, intimidate or humiliate another member.

Under certain circumstances, cyber bullying (e.g. bullying that is carried out through an internet service such as email, a chat room, discussion group, instant messaging or website) is a criminal offence that can be reported to the police.

In addition, members who publish false or misleading comments about another person in the public domain (e.g., Facebook, YouTube or Twitter) may be liable for defamation.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2015 Version - Page 1 of 1 ~ www.playbytherules.net.au

Under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012, it is a requirement for all paid and unpaid persons involved in face-to-face contact with children to undertake a Working with Children Check.

As far as the White Sox Baseball Club Junior Grades are concerned, the following people will be required to undergo the Working with Children Check:

• Coaches.

The only exemptions will be persons under the age of 18 years who might be filling a coaching role.

How to Obtain a Check

A Working with Children Check may be obtained through the Office of the Children's Guardian website shown below.

http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check

Terms and fees of the Working With Children Check

The result of a Working With Children Check is either a clearance to work with children for five years, or a ban against working with children. Cleared applicants are subject to on-going monitoring, and relevant new records may lead to the clearance being revoked.

The Working With Children Check is free for volunteers.

What is Checked

The Working with Children Check obtains applicants' national criminal histories from Crim Trac. The records include:

• Convictions (spent or unspent)

• Charges (whether heard, unheard or dismissed)

• Juvenile records

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2015 Version - Page 1 of 1 ~ www.playbytherules.net.au

Our commitment

We believe that junior sport should be safe, enjoyable, inclusive and maximize individual participation. Our club acknowledges that positive experiences in junior competition will contribute to children developing a lifelong love of sport.

What we will do

• Emphasize to coaches and parents that junior sport is about participation, not competition.

• Modify rules and equipment where possible to include children and young people of all abilities and encourage their participation.

• Try to match junior players with others of their own ability (e.g. if there are enough players, have two teams in an age division).

• Provide junior players with a broad range of experiences (e.g. participating in different positions).

• Provide equal playing time for all juniors, regardless of their ability.

• Ensure that all team members play in the finals.

What we ask you to do

Coaches

• Focus on promoting participation, not winning and losing.

• Ensure all team members have the chance to play, rotate through positions and receive equal playing time.

• If you coach your own children, treat them like all other team members (e.g. rotations, playing time or participation).

• Under the Child Protection Act 2012, all coaches must have a valid Working With Children Clearance.

• Application for a Working With Children Clearance is made by completing an online application at http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check

Parents

• Help out the coach where possible at training and games.

• Focus on your child’s effort and performance, not the score.

• Encourage your child and other team members.

• Respect the selection decisions of the coach.

THE SELECTION COMMITTEE AND TEAM SELECTION POLICY

www.whitesox.baseball.com.au ~ 2015 Version - Page 1 of 2 ~ www.playbytherules.net.au

Our commitment

Our club supports an open and fair process for the selection of teams. Selection will be based on clear criteria that are communicated with all players prior to the season commencing.

What we will do

The Selection Committee

A selection panel will be appointed by the Board which will consist of up to four members, one of which will be a non-playing member of the club with considerable past playing experience and knowledge of the game. The other members may be current players and coaches provided they are not coaching the team in which they play, and each of these members will have had considerable playing experience with the White Sox Baseball Club.

• The coach of each Major League team will consult with the Selection Panel on player performance, but the final say in team selection will be in the hands of the Selection Panel.

• The members of the panel will be present at training whenever possible to see who is attending training, and how each individual player trains.

• The members of the panel will share the task of observing each team on playing days so that at least one member is present when each team plays each playing day.

• The scorebooks for all grades will be made available to the panel members on training nights, so that in addition to the reports provided by the coaches, they will be able to see how each member contributed to the team performance.

• The Club will ensure that there will be training co-ordinators present on each training night so that all aspects of training are organised, and that maximum benefit may be derived by all players attending training.

The Selection Procedure

Selection decisions will be based mainly on performance, however they will also consider:

• Attendance at competition, training and club / team events (commitment)

• Good sportsmanship (values)

• Abiding by our club’s Code of Behaviour on and off the field (behavior).

• As required by the NBA, all senior players are graded. Seven players are graded First Grade, nine players are graded for all subsequent Grades except the last Grade where eleven players will be graded subject to the Club having sufficient registered players. Selection will however be determined by the criteria outlined above and not on the grading provided to the NBA at the commencement of the season.

In addition, players or athletes:

• Must be financial members of the club

• Will be selected on their performance, commitment, values and behaviour, not their personal characteristics or attributes (e.g. race, sexuality, religion)

• May be precluded from selection if there is a concern about their ability to compete safely or if their participation poses a risk to others.

Process

• As requested, or as necessary, players will be provided with reasons for non-selection and areas to improve in order to be considered for selection.

• Selection criteria will be reiterated during the season so that players are clear about how teams competing in the finals will be chosen.

• Concerns about team selection should be discussed with selectors/coach in the first instance. A formal written complaint to the Club board should be made if these concerns cannot be resolved and the player believes s/he has not been treated in accordance with the selection policy.
