Year 3/4
Hockey Festival—March 80 children took the opportunity to improve their hockey
skills on the Whickham astroturf and there was a lot
of talent on display. Well done to the students from
Front Street and Fellside for their effort and enthusi-
asm. CSLA leaders from Whickham did a great job of
organising and umpiring matches and got very excited
when supporting their teams!
Year 5/6 Football Festival -
April
Unfortunately, this event had to
be cancelled due to our awful
weather!
Its never too early to learn the im-
portance of fitness and it was great to
see 120 students taking part in a fit-
ness festival which left them worn out!
They took part in activities to raise
their heart rate, work on flexibility,
agility and speed.

Year 3/4
Basketball Festival - April Over 100 budding basketball players worked their magic throughout this
festival to impress Billy and help their team to play the best games
possible.
Respect Award—Parochial
With an attendance in excess of 220 children, the Whickham astroturf
was alive with activity for this festival. The children took part in run-
ning, jumping and throwing activities trying to get further or go faster
with each attempt. The highlight of the day had to be the pole vault
station where many conquered fears and pushed themselves out of
their comfort zones. The facial expressions told various stories!

Year 5 Young Ambassadors—YA’s Whickham Silver Sports Ambassadors Katie and Riccardo
hosted a workshop for year 5 children who had been nominated
for the role of Bronze ambassadors in their own schools. There were
some very interesting ideas of what they might like to do to increase
participation and raise awareness of health and fitness. We look forward to hearing how they are getting on in their roles.

Students from Gibside

fun. They made great progress on
the climbing wall and were a
pleasure to work with.

Quadkids Athletics—fun in the sun!
There was a great turn out for this competition and all
events were keenly contested. Whickham leaders were deliberately given very little help with running the event and
coped admirably under pressure. They really brought out
the best in the students. All children took part in four
events: 400metres, 60 metres, standing long jump and the
mini howler throw with results being collated to give the
final scores.
Front street finished first with Fellside in second place, both
qualifying to represent the Whickham Cluster in the Gates-
head finals. Parochial, Clover Hill, Washingwell and Swalwell
schools also performed really well.
**** Front Street finished 2nd in the Gateshead Finals with
Fellside 6th. Well done to both schools *****

Paralympic Event-Thank you Gibside School !
The Paralympic event was a great success thanks to
staff at Gibside School and the year 10 leaders from Whick-
ham School. All cluster schools attended and children were
given the opportunity to try out sports like goalball, boccia,
new age curling and seated volleyball. Everyone involved
had a great time.
