When Tables Turn: The Table at the New Museum by GILLIAN TOZER Started up in Los Angeles, The Table is a series of sound experiences based purely on improvisation. Presented yesterday by performer and filmmaker Wu Tsang at the New Museum (as part of his residency there), last night's Table session brought together four DJs/producers in a friendly five-hour face-off (literally, they were facing each other). KINGDOM (Ezra Rubin), NGUZUNGUZU (Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda), and TOTAL FREEDOM (Ashland Mines) worked to create a unique, energetic and seamless soundscape.

On the table were countless mixers, drum pads, and other knobby gadgets. Hip Hop, R&B, House, and Middle Eastern samples were sped up, slowed down, chopped, screwed, murdered and maimed to create an epic, unidentifiable auditory journey. These are new ideas in sound, and, for lack of a cooler description–it's all terribly exciting. See the pics and watch the video snippets below!
