100 Gigabit/s - All part of the processWhen one of the largest data processing companies in the world embarked on a major project to construct two
new European data centres, it required a 21st century network infrastructure designed to support speeds of 40
and 100Gb/s. A solution from Brand-Rex provided all of the answers.

ADP GSI GSI
Automatic Data Processing (ADP GSI) provides business processing and
cloud-based solutions, including payroll, talent management, human
resource management, benefits administration and time and attendance
services to employers.
Founded in 1949 under the name Automatic Payrolls, ADP GSI’s business
model remains much the same today - providing transaction-based
information processing and additional services that are mission-critical
to a client’s business.
The company now serves around 620,000 organisations in more than 125
countries, with over 80 per cent of Fortune 500 companies and more than 90
Fortune 100 companies using at least one of ADP GSI’s services. In 1995 ADP
GSI bolstered its European presence by acquiring GSI - the largest payroll
and human resource services company in Europe.
New data centres
With data processing at the heart of the business it is imperative that
ADP GSIs data centre facilities are able to take the strain and this means
a network infrastructure solution that can provide flexibility, agility,
performance and scalability.
In order to guarantee peak performance across Europe, ADP GSI
decided on two new facilities located in different countries. In early 2013
work began on a new data centre in Paris. With two thousand associates
and a production site located in France, Paris was an obvious choice for the
first centre.
For security reasons it was deemed that the second data centre should be
positioned in a different European territory and after researching a number
of potential locations, Barcelona in Spain came out on top - thanks in no
small part to its established infrastructure and competitive prices.
Work started at the Spanish site in July 2013.
Requirements
At the Paris site, ADP GSI was hoping to build the first true 100Gb/s
data centre in France - an ambitious goal and one that would require
a high end network infrastructure as well as a highly knowledgeable
solutions provider. Vincent Trouvé, Data Centre Manager at ADP GSI’s Paris
facility, comments, ‘We needed a solution that could provide the flexibility,
scalability and performance at the new sites in Paris and Barcelona. 10Gb/s
would offer nominal performance, 40Gb/s would result in a good performance
and 100Gb/s would allow excellent performance - therefore it made perfect
sense to choose a 100Gb/s solution that would fully satisfy our operational
needs well into the future.’
Brand-Rex became involved in the project after being introduced to ADP GSI
by Karim Derdiche, Key Account Manager for Data Centres at Rexel France.
Trouvé continues, ‘The choice came down to Brand-Rex and one other solutions
supplier. The other supplier was not able to adapt its equipment to meet our
needs without causing significant delays, while Brand-Rex was flexible enough
to propose a solution that would fit with the network equipment we use.’
As with many new data centre projects, the list of requirements at the
ADP GSI projects was long and varied - therefore, careful planning and
consultation had to take place before the fit out could take place.
Some of the key objectives that Vincent Trouvé and his team were hoping
to meet included:
• Scalable power efficiency (12kw per rack)
• Cooling efficiency
• Infrastructure efficiency
• Network efficiency
• Scalability
• Redundancy (power, network, servers)
• Security
Frank Delille, Country Manager for Brand-Rex, recalls how Brand-Rex was
able to meet ADP GSI’s requirements from the outset. He comments, ‘Our
team, with the support of our installation partner RBC Connection and Rexel,
fine tuned the needs of ADP GSI in terms of active components to ensure that
polarity of our MTP® products was altered to be in line with recommendations of
the switch manufacturer chosen by ADP GSI.
Brand-Rex then successfully implemented the required polarity to exactly match
ADP GSI’s needs.’

diameter cables that save space in pathways and racks, giving more space
for air circulation, modular construction suited to the moves, adds and

assured by factory termination of connectors.
Delille adds, ‘MTP® being pre-tested and pre-terminated allows for very fast and
Brand-Rex MTP® products allow true speeds up to 100Gb/s.
The high quality of the connector system allows multi-connector links
budget of high speed applications. Because the MT Connect system is made
up of standards compliant component products which are designed and
manufactured to conform to the requirements of the structured wiring
cabling standards (ISO/IEC 11801:2002, EN 50173-1:2006 and TIA 568B.3
and the data centre cabling standards EN50173-5:2007 and TIA 942), ADP
GSI could be sure that the system was designed and built to perform at the
highest level and could be relied upon for years to come.
10GPlus Zone Cable
The Brand-Rex 10GPlus Zone Cable used in both ADP GSI data centres
is specially designed for use in challenging data centre environments.
Smaller and lighter than conventional cables, this high performance
Augmented Category 6 screened solution facilitates a 100 per cent
increase in the number of cables per cable tray. The 10GPlus Zone cable is
in Paris and Barcelona.
On a time sensitive project such as this it was important that the installation
was carried out without hold ups or delays and the 10GPlus Zone Cable
helped to ensure that operations ran smoothly throughout. Delille
comments, ‘The complete installation took place over four weeks and included
Trouvé adds, ‘The installation was incredibly smooth with all parties working
well together. The commitment and professionalism of the Brand-Rex team
was impeccable.’
Right decisions

As the data centre teams in Paris and Barcelona
familiarise themselves with the new technologies, they can now look back
at the network infrastructure installation and feel that they made the right
decisions at the right times.
Trouvé concludes, ‘
looking forward to discovering the true potential of the infrastructure that is now
in place. We chose Brand-Rex because we recognised that they could provide the
that we were looking for in such an important project for the organisation.
We would like to thank the Brand-Rex team, as well as RBC Connection and Rexel
