Craig Wood, Transplant Series, 2015, mixed media installation

Craig Wood Dear Olivia...

Page 5: What's On at Oriel Davies this Spring

Ar gyfer ei sioe unigol ddiweddaraf, Dear Olivia ... mae Craig Wood yn cyflwyno gweithiau newydd trawiadol sy’n amrywio o osodiadau cerfluniol ar raddfa fawr a thafluniad fideo, i fwclis papur cain a mapiau wedi’u paentio. Mae llinynnau cyfathrebu, yr unigolyn a’r lluosog, cenedlaetholdeb a strwythurau grym symudol yn rhedeg drwy’r arddangosfa.

Mae gweithiau Mapping Wood yn cynnig bydoedd geo-wleidyddol lle mae cyfandiroedd cyfan yn diflannu o dan y moroedd, gwledydd yn cael eu rhoi i sefyll ar eu pen mewn perthynas â’u cyfesurynnau arferol, neu wyneb y ddaear yn cael ei chwalu. Mae ei osodiadau Transplant, sy’n frawychus ac yn ddoniol, yn cyfeirio at faterion byd-eang trechol: datgymalu cymunedau ar draws y byd drwy drefoli a mudo torfol. Yn y gwaith celf, Dear Olivia ... mae’r artist yn symud o fyd-olwg i ganolbwyntio ar lais yr unigolyn, sy’n anweledig ac i bob golwg, yn anghyraeddadwy.

Yn wreiddiol o’r Alban, mae Craig Wood wedi bod yn byw yn Ne-orllewin Cymru am 25 mlynedd. Mae’n arddangos yn helaeth ar draws y DU a thramor, ac mae hefyd yn curadu ac yn ysgrifennu. Mae Craig Wood yn darlithio yn PCYDDS (Campws Abertawe).

Cefnogir Dear Olivia … gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru

Lansio’r Arddangosfa gyda sgwrs gan Craig Wood Nos Sadwrn 07 Mawrth 5—8pm (sgwrs 5—6pm)

For his latest solo show, Dear Olivia … Craig Wood presents striking new works which range from large-scale sculptural installation and video projection to delicate paper necklaces and painted maps. Running throughout the exhibition are threads of communication, the individual and the multitude, nationalism and shifting power structures.

Wood’s Mapping works offer geo-political worlds where whole continents are vanished beneath the seas, countries are upended from their usual coordinates, or the earth’s surface is disrupted. His Transplant installations, both startling and humorous, reference dominant global issues: the dislocation of communities worldwide through urbanisation and mass migration. In the artwork, Dear Olivia … the artist moves from a world-view to focus on the voice of the individual, unseen and apparently unreachable.

Originally from Scotland, Craig Wood has been based in South West Wales for 25 years. He exhibits widely across the UK and abroad, and also curates and writes. Craig Wood lectures at UWTSD, Swansea Campus.

Dear Olivia … is supported by Arts Council of Wales

Exhibition launch with talk by Craig Wood Saturday 07 March 5—8pm (talk 5—6pm)

Mae natur gyffyrddol llyfrau yn creu ymateb cnawdol sy’n rhagori ar ymatebion i’w cywerthyddion digidol. Mae’n emosiynol ac yn esthetig — yn ysgogi atgof ac emosiwn...

Crack the spine. Strum the pages. Play the fragments of memories.

Mae Sound Books yn archwilio’r llyfr fel gwrthrych a’r ffordd y mae’n ymgysylltu â’r synhwyrau.

Mae’r ddau artist yn byw ar y ffin rhwng Cymru a Lloegr ac mae’r ddau yn cyfeirio at y cefn gwlad yn eu gwaith, ond gyda chanlyniadau gwahanol. Mae Amy Sterly yn gwneud printiau ac yn gerflunydd, ac mae Thom Snell yn artist fideo ac yn gerddor. Maent yn gweithio gyda’i gilydd i gyfnewid syniadau a sgiliau i greu rhywbeth newydd i’r ddau ohonynt.

Cefnogir Sound Books gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru

The tactile nature of books creates a sensual response that surpasses reactions to digital equivalents. It is emotional and aesthetic — triggering memory and emotion...

Crack the spine. Strum the pages. Play the fragments of memories.

Sound Books explores the book as an object and the way it engages the senses.

Both artists live on the Welsh/English border and each reference the rural in their work, but with different outcomes. Amy Sterly is a printmaker and sculptor, while Thom Snell is a video artist and musician. They are working together to exchange ideas and skills to create something new to both of them.

Sound Books is supported by Arts Council of Wales
