Hello all and welcome to our Week 6 newsletter. Congratulations to our
sporting teams for some impressive performances over the last few weeks and
to the Year 12 students who were rewarded with a principal morning tea to
congratulate them on their great academic results in their reports. Its also
great to read about our students attending some very interesting excursions
which enrich their learning and understanding of course content in some of
their senior studies. Speaking of study, I encourage all students to see Ms
Dimilia about joining our Homework Centre. Ms Dimilia even bakes fresh
muffins to encourage our students to attend and get help with their homework
and assignments. I hope you enjoy reading our latest newsletter.

Miss Cividin attended the year meeting for Grade 7 to thank them for their generosity and support on the ISHS Autism Awareness day (held earlier this term). The students completed a quiz and watched a short video on Autism Spectrum Disorder. As part of improving Autism Awareness and Inclusion of the ISHS Elouera students at the school, Year 7 will complete further training workshops throughout the year.
7I were learning about the mummification process today and we made our own class mummies!

Let’s talk sport…….
Boys Basketball final 16 in the state.
On Tuesday 24th We played Sydney Boys High in their gym
(surrounded by NSW, All Schools, GPS and Australian
premiers banners). The boys were so close in the first half,
only down by 5 at half time playing in quite a physical
game. Although we only had 2 subs on the bench and they
had a team of 10 (all year 12 students), the boys certainly
held their own. It was a fantastic game to watch, I’m
amazed at the huge increase in skill level shown by every
player. They should be so proud of how far they made it.
Surfing
A huge congratulations to our very own Summer Simon. The Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles were
held in May at Bells Beach, Victoria. Summer surfed brilliantly and took out the prestigious title of
Women's Open champion.
Basketball
The boys played Endeavour at Berkeley Sports Club in
the Buckley and University Shield. Unlucky to lose both
games, it sets the benchmark for the rest of the season.
Huge congratulations to the 16's and 18's girls rugby
league teams. Both won their respective grand finals at
the Sam Bremner Shield. The 16's are off to the state
finals! Third year in a row the girls have won!

Year 12 Modern History visit the Sydney Jewish Museum
On Tuesday 17/5/16 both Year 12 Modern History classes attended a lecture day
at the Sydney Jewish Museum. Students had the opportunity to attend a lecture
on two of their topics National Study Germany and Personality Study Leni
Riefenstahl. In addition to this students were taken on a tour of the museum
looking at letters and artefacts on the Holocaust. In the afternoon students had
the privilege of speaking to and hearing from Joe who is a Holocaust survivor.
The Modern History students were able to learn about his personal experience
as a Holocaust survivor and gained valuable life lessons from Joe. It was an
amazing opportunity for all our students and they were a fantastic
representation of our school.
Staff Training
We are a team of staff from five faculties ( HSIE, English,
PE, Science and Learning and Support staff), who have
been learning about the literacy continuum.
We have spent time assessing student work samples,
plotting students on the continuum and designing learning
activities to enhance students writing capabilities.
We look forward to our students becoming more
successful writers across a range of settings.
Thanks to our literacy consultant Maxine Green who is
leading this project.

Year 12 Ancient History attended the Nicholson Museum on Tuesday to undertake an
intensive HSC primary evidence course. This museum houses the largest collection of
Egyptian artefacts in Australia. The students were able to handle (with gloves) some items
dating back over 4000 years. Mitchell was an amazing guide who had an answer for every
question when viewing rare artefacts from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome and Ancient
Greece. The most memorable parts of the day were learning about the brutal life of a
Roman soldier and seeing ancient Egyptian mummies and coffins.
