If you would like to participate, please bring a case of water (any size) to church on Sunday. Thanks!! First Fruits TODAY! Your gifts make a difference in the lives of our hungry neighbors. Back-to-School Backpacks for CASA: Marcia Wright delivered our 31 backpacks and 4 large sacks of school supplies to CASA this past week and stayed to help to fill the backpacks. They were thrilled with our contribution! They can always use more, so keep on bringing them in!! Outreach Fundraiser - Our partner church, St. Anthony’s on the Desert, will be holding their 4 th Annual Charity Golf Tournament & Auction on Saturday, September 20, 2014. The tournament is held at the FireRock Country Club in Fountain Hills, and is followed by a dinner and silent auction. Individual golf entry is $175, foursome entry is $700. Dinner is $50. 100% of the proceeds go to support outreach efforts, and St. James will be applying for one of their generous outreach grants. This outreach of the Episcopal Church fosters daily thanksgiving for the blessings of our lives. Look up the story of the widow's mite in the Bible. The In- gathering will be in November. Candidate Accountability Forum: Districts 18 & 28 hosted by Valley Interfaith Project, Sunday, August 10th from 3:30 to 5 pm at Dayspring United Methodist Church in Tempe (1365 E Elliot Rd, Tempe, - west of McClintock on the south side). Just like the very successful candidate forum held here at St. James in Oct. of 2012, this is a non-partisan conversation with Democratic, Republican, and Libertarian candidates for the AZ Senate and House of Representatives. The forum is not a debate but an opportunity to learn more about these candidates prior to the Primary voting and their response to our issues. Specifically, VIP will be asking questions regarding our VIP Human Development Agenda on 1) Public Education funding, 2) Workforce Development, 3) Healthcare and support of the Medicaid expansion, 4) Neighborhood Safety and Immigration, 5) halting the sex-trafficking of minors. Your participation is important to the continued relationship building VIP and your St. James Core team has done with these candidates. Please feel free to include your friends and family. the art of “wri�ng” an icon. No former art experience

necessary. Brenda will walk you through a step by step

process of learning to create an icon from start to finish.
