That Was My Home: Stories from the Noongar Camps in Shenton Park and South FremantleWednesday 24 October 5.00pm–6.00pmFREE | Great Southern Room

Join Dr Denise Cook, Lynette Coomer and Doreen Nelson as they share research and memories about life in the Shenton Park and South Fremantle camps and discuss the importance of following Aboriginal cultural protocols in cross-cultural research.

Denise Cook is an historian, museum curator and interpretation specialist. Lynnette Coomer lived in the Shenton Park camps in the 1950s and Doreen Nelson is a Noongar Elder who stayed at Smelters’ camp every summer with her grandmother.

Homecomings, 1918Monday 12 November 5.00pm–6.20pmFREE | Great Southern Room

When the last bugles of Empire sounded in November 1918, the experience of war was far from over for most Western Australians. The logistics of returning troops to Australia was, in itself, a mammoth task. Once complete, communities struggled to face the loss and the enduring costs of war. In this fascinating talk, Notre Dame historians, Deborah Gare, Leigh Straw and Paul Reilly, will share some of the most extraordinary moments of the war’s end.

Discovery and Development of the Greater Sunrise Oil and Gas FieldThursday 29 November 5.30pm–6.30pmFREE | slwa.eventbrite.com.au | Geographe Room

Join Peter Ellery AM, former CEO of the Chamber of Minerals & Energy and Manager of Government & Public Affairs for Woodside Energy, for a talk about the 1975 discovery of the giant Greater Sunrise gas field in the Timor Sea. The story takes place against a background of political instability, revolution, invasion, hostile Indonesian occupation of the former Portuguese colony of East Timor (now the new nation of Timor L’Este) and involvement of Australian armed forces.
