Matalon, Chairman of the Development Bank of Jamaica and others.

Enhancing Workplace Wellness for your Top Performers

To an unfortunately high level, the workplace can be a stressful place: particularly so for upper-level and middle management executives whose span of responsibilities can be daunting. Many in these groups daily experience the truism that the better you are at your job, the more work comes your way, at times resulting in heightened stress levels and “burn-out” apprehension on the part of many of the highest achievers – the backbone of any organization!

How can businesses best support their employees by helping to reduce their workplace stress and enhance their proclivity – and capacity - to contribute?

One approach is through encouraging them to develop a holistic programme that incorporates a healthy, holistic lifestyle – one characterized by a good diet, appropriate exercise, and constant intellectual stimulation and stress management – among other components. Some firms deliberately try to create a familial environment by creating and nurturing supportive teams… The options are many, but it would probably be a mistake to think that one size fits all. The firm must know its employees.

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) is partnering with Mahogany Health and Fitness to present a series of morning events – beginning on Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 a.m. at the Knutsford Court Hotel – designed to support Workplace Wellness. The initial event will introduce participants to key building blocks of Workplace Wellness, viz. Eating Smart, Moving More, Managing Stress, and (for those who still struggle with the addiction) Not Smoking.

Mahogany Health & Fitness CEO, and main presenter for the series, is the well-known Dr. Winston ‘Cubba’ Dawes, whose track record includes not only many years of service to Jamaica’s elite athletes as team doctor for Jamaican participants at the Olympics and World Championships level, but also an innovative health and wellness practice incorporating state-of-the-art technological tools.

The July 30 event will begin with a healthy and balanced breakfast, followed by engaging presentations on the aforementioned building blocks of Workplace Wellness; as well as individual non-invasive Body Composition Analysis which will measure: Your total body fat Ratio of fat to muscle in arms, legs and trunk Fat around the body organs – determining the level of fat in the body can help to alert individuals to

possible health risks so that corrective measures can be prescribed before chronic illnesses develop.

Plan to be there at 7:30 a.m. and leave at 10:30 a.m.. Your health and wellness is worth the three hours! Participation fee is J$4,000 - JCC Members or J$4,500 - non-members (GCT excluded).
