A Cop, a Judge, & an Ex-Offender Hear Their Views on Racism

As many are aware, Presiding Bishop Eliza-beth Eaton has spoken out often and force-fully about the evil of racism in our church and in our society. As part of her work to aggres-sively confront this evil, Bishop Eaton will host a second webcast. This one will focus on racism in the criminal justice system. Luther-ans from around the country will join the con-versation. This will be an opportunity to hear some civil discourse and personal story around a very difficult issue. Thursday, Janu-ary 14th at 6:00 pm is the live broadcast. For more information and a link to the webcast, go to http://www.elca.org/webcast

Shared Harvest Assembly

Our shopping list for January:

• Cold cereal (We need 41 boxes.) • Canned fruit (We need 41 cans.) • Powdered milk (We need 41 packets.) • Deodorant & Bars of soap (We need as

many as possible of both.) Bag assembly is at 1pm, January 24. It’s VERY helpful to have your items the week before assembly. You are also wel-come to drop off items at the church office during the month.

Fellowship

Several fellowship groups are starting up again or for the first time in early 2016!

Tables of Grace – Assigned groups of 6-8 people take turns hosting monthly dinners in each other’s homes. Game Nights – Participate in large group game nights in Shepherd Hall and some smaller group games in mem-ber’s homes. Women’s Coffee Club – A NEW women’s group will be meeting on the last Friday of each month for coffee and conversation. The group will try out a different coffee bar each month. The first Coffee Club gathering is scheduled for Friday, January 29th at 9:15 am at the Coffee Bar (682 Mt. Rose St.) If you would like to receive group email reminders about the monthly coffee gatherings, sign-up in the Welcoming Space. The deadline for signing up for these fellowship groups is TODAY, so stop by the Welcoming Space table after wor-ship services! You can also email Kristin Lessard at [email protected] to express interest.

Project Homeless Connect

The 8th annual Project Homeless Connect returns to the Reno Events Center on Tuesday, January 26th. This important one-day event provides individuals and families experiencing homelessness with access to free services including medical care, social services, housing informa-tion, haircuts and cold weather donations under one roof. Good Shepherd will be actively supporting the ef-forts of Project Homeless Connect through: Volunteers: Several volunteers are needed to help with set-up at the Reno Events Center on Monday, January 25th and to work at Project Homeless Connect on Tues-day, January 26th. See the Welcoming Space for sign-up sheets and details! Clothing & Cold Weather Donations: Fill the tent! We will be collecting clothing of all types, particularly cold weather items of coats, hats, gloves, scarves, woolen socks, undergarments, thermal wear, jeans, sleeping bags, blankets, tents and tarps from Sunday, January 10 – Sunday, January 24 for distribution at Project Home-less Connect. Place donations in and around the tent dis-play in the Welcoming Space.
